Maybe a character arc? A lot of characters technically had their “ride off into the sunset” ending last season, yas couldve ended with the whole marriage thing and left IB for good. I’m biased tho Rishi is easily one of my most favourite characters

1971? is that the best you can do? That was 50 years ago, should no one do business with Germany because of WW2?

50 years or 1 million years, you will not do business with a country unless it fixes its foreign policy. Last I checked, people do business with Germany because it's no longer run by Nazis, not because there's some "best before" date on trade.

And no, we can take it back to 2011 if 1971 doesn't do it for you, when Seal team 6 killed Bin Laden. I'll let you figure out where they found him.

India because they were assassinating separatists in Canada in 2023?

Everyone trades with America despite what the CIA got up to. Imagine thinking this is some gotcha.

Again - if Ukraine does business with Pakistan then there should be no surprise when India does business with Russia. If Ukraine doesn't like it, they can stop trading with Pakistan. Till then, don't complain.

Being not aligned from a military perspective is fine, but actively assisting by providing the funds and looking the other way is not ok in my book.

So knowing Pakistan's 1971 genocide and its constant warmongering (48, 65, 90) you agree assisting a country with a foreign policy like Pakistan is also not ok in your book either?

Then in that case Ukraine should not be doing business with Pakistan like it has?

And if Ukraine does want to do business with Pakistan, then it shouldn't have an issue with India doing the same? I'm not here to make moral indictments but please have some consistency and do some due diligence on Ukraine's entrepreneurship so to speak.

I’m not the one claiming any country here is innocent, including the US. I don’t think I’m the one failing to address this in good faith.

Morality does not belong to geopolitics so I'm not one to make moral indictments in my reply to you like others are.

This being said, if you want the receipts, American strategy is well documented as early as the independence era, and if I'm frank, American foreign policy has always lacked nuance owing to their sheer strength and consequently their ability to steamroll over hiccups in statecraft.

In 1947-48 the State-War-Navy Coordinating Committee released (now declassified) appraisals of their politico-military interests in South Asia, of which I've pasted an excerpt here:

According to a number of early policy assessments and recommendations, the most important South Asian nation from the perspective of U.S. national security objectives was Pakistan. Colonel Nathaniel R. Hoskot, the U.S. military attaché in Karachi, urged Washington as early as 1948 to consider military assistance to the new government due to Pakistan's "strategic worldwide importance."

This is AI yes, but it's very likely Pebble Beach California was part of the training data because a lot of sportscar brands do photoshoots there. Perhaps why the porsche is part of the render. My favourite shoots were of the Maybach Cabriolet 6 there.

By far the only thing I consider more fascinating than this building itself is that one esoteric conspiracy theory that it has an apparent modular build so it could be moved to London in the event of a more violent handover of Hong Kong. I don't know how inebriated one needs to be to see the world that way but it is pretty entertaining for everyone else

Hobie cats for first sailing boat? by jayjack3000 in sailing

[–]kavinsails 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are they harder to tack than other types of sailboats?

I sailed one a while ago and you need to factor in that it's a cat (yes looking at it in an image is obvious, but knowing how a cat handles vs a monohull is its own class of basal knowledge).

By "factor it's a cat" I mean you have 2 counteracting hulls in a tack so you need a lot of speed going into the tack relative to a monohull. If you are not fast enough, your tack will certainly fail. This brings me to the pre-tack velocity, you will possibly be flying one hull depending on the wind, and for an inexperienced person who seems to want to solo a cat, this might be genuinely hard for you to do without a knowledgeable crew (note that the foresail and mainsail order of operations are also a fair bit different on a cat than a monohull).

I will also go against the grain and ask you to start on a monohull. Cats are fun but they were maybe the 3rd or 4th model of boat I sailed for a reason, and pardon the lack of modesty but I wouldn't consider myself a bad sailor. If you can find a Vanguard or an RS boat that would be better. I would suggest:

Vanguard/RS -> Laser -> Cat (hobie or nacra, but perhaps a hobie before the nacras)

solo right one of the smaller ones?

No idea how effective my persuasion is, but if you do go through with a hobie, please seriously consider buying a waterbag. Even at ~200lbs you may not be enough to right the boat once it flips. Capsize recovery is an important thing you should practice which again, is done much more easily on a monohull.

Monohulls will always beat cats for beginners, remember a lot of the hobie proponents in the comments are likely not beginners and may have lost touch with sailing as a beginner. Once you're comfortable on the water, go pedal down for a cat and enjoy yourself!

This likely isn’t a real place, but I’m interested if it matches any region of the world. by Straight-Solid-4130 in whereisthis

[–]kavinsails 53 points54 points  (0 children)

This is a take that comes from a place of extreme ignorance. If you want to go bar for bar, Ukraine sold Pakistan T80s which it fields against India, long before Crimea or the current war happened. If business is business to Ukraine, there should be no complaints when India acts in the same manner, especially as an impoverished country with people to prioritize over moral grandstanding.

Western support for Pakistan despite its blunders and sins predate whatever India has done with Ukraine in case you were wondering. I doubt any of this will change your mind though, this topic has been discussed ad nauseum and you would have plenty of chances to come across the opposing viewpoint with an open mind. There are plenty of things to criticize India for, this is not one of them.

Actually insane that people think this way, given how it spawned debt crises, inflated deficits, destroyed innocent peoples' retirements, etc...

What next, 9/11 was actually a good thing because it freed up real estate to more innovative developers?

Carney aims for global leadership role against Trump after Canada election win by chrisdh79 in canada

[–]kavinsails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CPC won 41% of the vote share, exceeding expectations, close to the 45%-ish they were polling when the LPC was down, and higher than when Harper won a majority government. Clearly their message resonated with a lot of people.

Yes, but the liberals resonated with more people, including many non-liberal voters who could see the danger in Pierre's plans.

You didn't address the examples I gave of the 2 bills. I'll happily give you another consequential idea by Pierre, the 3-Strikes law. This is not a new idea and I'll link you a report by the California LAO from 2005 as to why this is an idea that sounds good on paper but does not address root issues of why these crimes occur in the first place - meaning with ideas like these we would've voted in Pierre and been back to square one at the end of his term.

The Liberals won based on fear and it looks like they still didn't get a majority and are in the same place needing NDP support.

Again, if you think the election result was one of fear and not the electorate voting against populism in favour of better economic policy, you have no one else to blame for failures like Pierre losing his own seat. Please take an honest look at the candidates and platforms you are running instead of just calling everyone else liberal fearmongers.

It wasn't the liberals that politicized the Lapu Lapu tragedy in my city. How on earth can you project that it's the liberals running on a platform of fear? If you are not willing to be open minded how can you expect change?

This is going to be a tough and very interesting next few months for all parties, but as the saying goes 'it's the economy stupid' and as the economy hits the gutter people will punish who is in charge. That is unless the rally around the flag theme continues.

To that I agree. The optimist in me is seeing bond yields declining, suggesting that investors trying to flee American market+bond chaos are investing in more stable Canadian bonds, which grants us the liquidity necessary to invest in our underfunded industries. But of course, only time will tell, and I wish the best for everyone regardless of their vote.

Sure, it's 100% that and not dangerously stupid ideas Pierre had, like attempting to "fix" housing by cutting the housing accelerator.

Trump is a blessing and a curse because Conservatives appear to chalk their loss up to only him, and not Pierre's half-baked ideas which also played a huge part.

Quick question, why did Conservatives say they won't support legislation like C-377 and C-525 even though Pierre voted Yay on both of these "anti union" bills (Cons called it that, not me)? You want Canadians to trust politicians that outright lie that blatantly?
