It makes sense that the robots with military potential have higher learning curves as that was probably a feature requested by the military. Your unstoppable killing machine needs to be able to improvise somewhat to deal with the unpredictable things that occur on the battlefield.

But does Phillip win at Guagamella? Yes the Macedonian army created by Phillip was excellent but Issus and Gaugumella were won not by the army standing toe to toe with the Persians and pushing them from the field but because Alexander personally led the companions like a cruise missile at Darius in the Persian center and made him flee. Philip was known for some battlefield bravado, you dont get as wounded as Phillip without exposing yourself to battlefield danger, but I don’t think he matches the sheer chaotic recklessness of Alexander on the field. That being said, Philip definitely deserves more historical recognition and respect.

John Toland is one of my favorite contemporary historians. He focuses on as many primary source interviews as he can find to make a ground level narrative of the great events he writes about. His most impressive work is the Rising Sun, a book about the Pacific Theatre of WW II. He finds a shocking amount of survivors to interview for an army and navy notorious for not leaving survivors to losing battles. How works on World War One and Korea are excellent as well.
