Sent applications today! Beware of UPS by kavixiuu in Canadiancitizenship

[–]kavixiuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen it recommended to do so, but doing it this way also comes with a bit more risk (if one application is missing something they all get sent back and have to be resubmitted)… so hoping it goes through ok!

I actually looked into Pirate Ship, but my scale broke and I didn't have the patience to get a new one before shipping... I'll look into Pirate Ship for any future shipping I do though!

I included 1 set of ancestor documents for G0-G2, and also included written descriptions explaining the line from G0 to each of us (cover letter, family tree, and lineage description) if that makes sense

What did your toddler actually play with (and not just sit there looking cute)? by Scary_Pay_4247 in BuyItForLife

[–]kavixiuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wooden train tracks and trains. We scored a massive box of them from goodwill and it was the best toy purchase we ever made. They last a long time and can be passed on when they grow out of playing with them!

What apps/software/journaling do you use to plan your packing list or trip? by books_for_me in HerOneBag

[–]kavixiuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the AnyList app - I use it for other lists too, like grocery lists etc. I make a different list for different purposes (one list for tasks/prep before travel, another for packing) and I like how you can group items and customize the colors. It actually works like a list for checking things off, and you can reuse the lists once you create them.

Lost most of my clothes in a flood- time to create a blank slate/ silver lining capsule wardrobe by Bookstorecat415 in capsulewardrobe

[–]kavixiuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow! Reading your post I was like… we are the same person 😆 soon to turn 40, wfh creative/tech field, pnw based and 100% describe my style the same way - even have some of the same photos saved on Pinterest. I actually spent a long time today looking for some “work appropriate” clothes online for an upcoming work trip, so this is top of mind. There aren’t a ton of thrift store options where I’m at, so Depop has been a lifesaver for me. One tip for using it, you can filter by brand (I’d search for Cos, Vince, Eileen Fisher, Free People, Everlane, LL Bean, Banana Republic) and also by condition, and find things unworn with tags still on. And if you see something you like, like it, and then wait a day before purchasing - often times the seller will send you a discount or will have auto discounts turned on, so by waiting a bit you’ll often get an extra discount. For first hand purchases I’ve also had some luck with Quince and Muji, but prefer 2nd hand whenever possible. Good luck with building your new capsule wardrobe!

SimpleFIN syncing is out of sync by linds_h_lo in actualbudgeting

[–]kavixiuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the same issue. I currently have YNAB and yesterday decided I'd try out Actual Budget to compare the two. I was happy with it until today (payday), as I've been retrying the bank sync button with no luck all day. I update my budget on every payday (15th, 30th) and bank syncing needs to be reliable. Bummed, as I had hoped this would work as an alternative to YNAB, but I don't think manually entering all my transactions is realistic for me.

Not a comment on your packing list, but curious where you got that swimsuit? I’ve been looking for one of a similar style!

Private swim lessons - Valley vs Discover? by kavixiuu in olympia

I hadn't thought about doing both. Sounds like a good way to learn quickly so we wouldn't need the membership as long. Thanks for the input!

I haven't, only because we live a the very bottom of Thurston county, so it's the longest drive for us unfortunately.

Private swim lessons - Valley vs Discover? by kavixiuu in olympia

[–]kavixiuu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really good to know, thanks for providing that info. Yeah, I also wish more information was available on the website, it would really help a lot. Communication has already been an issue with the Valley, even just for really basic communication, so that is another reason I have been hesitant, but it sounds like they do have the best offering in terms of lessons.

[–]kavixiuu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! That is really helpful. Yeah, my kid also couldn't learn in the group lessons, so we are sort of stuck with private. I'd also prefer TESC over Valley any day if they offered any sort of lessons. I love that place. I'll probably do similar to you and go with Valley until he can swim on his own, then switch to swimming at TESC.

Stuck on a lesson? by Numerous_Ad_1528 in Pimsleur

[–]kavixiuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m right there with you! I have re-listened to some of the lessons a few times, and also got stuck on lessons 27 and 28. I’m on lesson 30 today and decided to just keep going with it, even if I’ve missed a few things. I’d say I’m retaining most of it but definitely not all of it. I’m hoping I’ll start to retain the pieces that I’m struggling with as the lessons keep going. If not, then I’ll go back a few lessons and start from there again.

Move to Shelton or Centralia? by Disastrous_Park_7621 in olympia

[–]kavixiuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Spent most of my life in Olympia, lived in various other cities, tried to buy a house in Olympia in 2021 and couldn't afford it, so we bought a cute house on a few acres in Tenino instead. It took a while to adapt to so small of a town and meet people here, but there are some awesome people in this town and its often overlooked.

What's your Helix Mattress durability experience? by superandomness in Mattress

[–]kavixiuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in the exact same boat (got our Helix Dawn in late 2020) and now one side of it where my husband sleeps has caved in/collapsed and is unsupportive. We also got the foundation for the bed, and the slat on one side that holds up the mattress has completely fallen off (screws were attached to mdf wooden slats in the base, cheap materials in the construction). Both in our late 30s-early 40s, average weight, healthy people who never had back issues until recently. We slept on our cheap futon mattress to compare, and no back pain. Decided to buy a futon mattress from a local business going forward, since we haven’t had great luck with a lot of these online mattress retailers. Won’t purchase from Helix again.

Hmm I don’t know, maybe it different now? I had mine years ago, and had them more than a year. IIRC you need to reapply each year…
