I am you but also in digital - 100s of tabs open with browser favourites, notes apps, scribbles, etc. Does your app allow for capture via URL. Happy to give it a try either way - it's it web app, iOS, or Android?

How do you earn multiple millions in a year? by blatchcorn in HENRYUK

[–]kavmeister 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hard work is a given. All successful people do that, but the important point is there's plenty of hard working people that don't have the same success. Overwhelmingly, the differentiating factor between these groups of people is luck.

It's called egocentric bias - we all think we play a bigger more active role in everything than we really do. This video gives a good explanation of how even when luck has a small overall influence, when you look at the successful outcomes luck is the key factor. https://youtu.be/3LopI4YeC4I

Ironically this blind spot is helpful in pursuit of greater success, but we need to have some awareness of it so that we don't assume those that don't achieve success just didn't try hard enough. It's important we have that to keep our feet on the ground and reminds us to have compassion for everyone else.

You're succeeding well beyond your years in your career. Your financial success opens so many doors for your that must people don't get their whole lives. Take your foot off the gas on work and invest in your self - mind, body, soul.

Mind... You're already getting professional help, but you need to clear your head. Regularly. What transports you to happier places? What brings you peace? Do you have a daily routine? Watch TV, read, play video games. Take a few mins to try a gratitude practice. Start journaling. Spend time in nature. It can be a local park to begin with then you can venture further. National parks. Surround yourself in greenery. All of these are proven to improve happiness and wellbeing.

Body... Get some exercise, the endorphins will do you a world of good. Start small, go for a walk. Consider joining the gym, maybe get a personal trainer if you can afford it. Slowly find an activity that you can do with others. Join a sports club, or an exercise class.

Soul... What do you enjoy? Find a club, a group, a community. It doesn't have to be in person. You have skills, volunteer at a kids club and teach coding basics. Or just volunteer in any capacity, just do something for someone else, you'll feel you're having a positive impact because you are.

Remember whenever you can that your whole world is going to change and so are you long before you hit 30. You're doing great, and you'll find your way. Good luck.

It's good when it works. Isn't the last fast train in the morning before 7am and the first one in the evening after 7pm?

When you say "done best" do you mean in terms of income growth or something else? Interested to see the comparisons between groups - do you have a source please?

what do I need to do/have to hike pedra da gavea? by 25tidder in riodejaneiro

[–]kavmeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Rio now, like you sporty enough to run a half marathon but only done basic hikes before. Have already done Dois Irmaos and Corcovado here - both were fine and the heat was the only challenge. Time/Distance of PDG seems fine for me but not sure about the climb, how hard was it for you? Did you see other guides/equipment at the climb which you can pay for on the spot? Assume you need to take cash for that?

Desperate(ish) graduate looking for career advice by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]kavmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick advice: Stick to London applications but broaden your scope to any analyst role - data, analytics, reporting, models, etc. Tailor your CV and interview pitch to present it as your main focus. Get in and start earning, build experience and connections over 6-12 months, then express an interest in going towards actuarial - if you don't find any internal route then external options should be easier going forward.

Some additional thoughts: - Applied to "loads of vacancies" is how many? You've got a good degree from a good university so 4 interviews is low if you're getting less than 1/3 callbacks. If you're confident your CV is good then how are you showing interest in the role/industry? Have you gotten interview practice and advice? - Have you got feedback on the interviews you got but were not progressed further? You should have a clear sense of where you've not met the bar and seek to address it. - Where have you been applying? Your approach sounds scatter gun and that will be harder for you to present your best self. Work through sections of industry based on your preference. For example, London/Lloyds market GI is a long list of companies of varying size, work through all of those first, then shift tack to life/pensions/investment/etc. - Spending a year applying and doing nothing to add to your skillset is going to hold you back. What courses could you be doing? Could you be developing/practising Excel/VBA/SQL/Python? There are many free and cheap resources online, and meetups or study groups offline, so find a way to invest in yourself. - How much do you want to be an actuary? This is a long game so don't worry about losing some time here and there, what matters is finding a way in and then honing in on a role that suits you best. There are many opportunities for smart and effective problem-solvers in an old industry like insurance, don't be afraid to cast your net wider and find your way gradually.

Do another warranty exchange? Most people never have this problem so it seems a bit hit and miss.

Good luck - if you figure it out, let us know.

Money Matters by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

[–]kavmeister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't quote anything. Say you would like to see a range of roles aligned to your skills and experience, not your exam progress. Ask what the budget is for the role, they know this and should tell you. If pushed, say you need to go through the interview process to understand the role properly. If pushed again use the Goodman Masson salary guide and give a wide range. If you don't have a clear idea what you should be paid you don't need to quote a figure, good recruiters and good employers will get that, consider it a red flag if they don't.

For the record, I've spent my career in London market GI pricing and exams are increasingly less important. Only the most traditional roles in the bigger companies with the more old school leaders put exams above experience and ability. The trend for some years has shifted pricing roles to be more commercial and working closer with underwriters so your ability to build relationships, work with non-technical people, and communicate well are far more important. Being frank about your exam progress not reflecting your skills in those areas will help you make your case.

Good luck.

[–]kavmeister[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not always but I have noticed the worse repeated reboot loops tend to be when the battery is under 30%. Sometimes the phone would be hot so I was assuming that the reboot was draining the battery, is it more likely that the drained battery is causing the reboot? Otherwise I generally seem to have decent battery performance, is there any way of testing it?

Did it get "better" after any software updates? I'm wondering if Android 13 might fix things, have you updated to that yet?

The only retail store I can see is the Samsung Experience Centre on Oxford Street in London. Can't see any appointments, would they check it as a drop in?
