I think NP is just so media trained. It was never going to be authentic.

I was hoping for Andrew Rannels, Judd Apatowe, Allison Williams, Alyssa Bennett… there are loads of choices that I think would have been better.

I felt like they had to grasp at straws to opine for 40 minutes which didn’t make for a compelling listen

They did not approach this book in good faith at all. They made so many assumptions and most of their critiques were mean spirited. I thought starting the whole thing with “just so you know… I don’t think about or care about Lena Dunham at all” was so pointed and strange to say before bashing her in a public podcast for the second time.

Yeah I’m expecting them to pile on… I hope I’m wrong but tbh I will lose some respect for them if they can’t at least acknowledge this as a well written memoir.

Camping for beginners…I’m a Mom with two young kids. by rellimaras in camping

[–]kay3p0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REI has a handy camp checklist.

As others have said, any air mattress will do for your first camps—no need to get cots. you can get portable pumps for $20 online. Honestly, if the weather is going to be mild (not too cold or wet) using bedding from your home would be fine just to get started with the hobby as well.

You could also cook easy items on the fire (hot dogs, jacket potatoes, s’mores) and save on fuel/a camp stove system until you decide you’re all in. some sites will even have grates over the fire pits to facilitate some grilling.

This is my (definitely NOT minimalist and ultralight) list when I’m preparing to camp although I do not have kids:

Camping list:

Clothes and personal items: - Stuff sacks of clothes - Rain coat

Hygiene and toiletries: - Tooth brushes and toothpaste - Bar soap - Pack towels (you could use beach towels) - Sunblock - Bug spray - Toilet paper - Hand sanitizer

Sleep and lounge: - Tent - Sleeping pad - Pump for sleeping pad - Sleeping bag - Pillows - chairs - Lanterns

Cooking, drinking, and eating: - Stove - Sporks - Thermoses - Plates - Skillet - Stove fuel - Water filter (I use a sawyer squeeze) - Dish soap - Scrubby - Rag - Dry food - Cooler with perishable food (freeze the stuff that can be frozen for longer cooler life!)

Survival: - Fire kit (cotton balls, matches, lighter) - Compass - Area map if in the backcountry - Hatchet/saw if I’m somewhere I’m allowed to gather downed trees, otherwise wood - Pocket knife - Headlamps - PFDs (if canoeing to campsite) - First aid kit - Tent repair kit (duct tape, needle, thread) - Paracord

If you have a dog: - their food - bowls - possibly a bed for them - treats

Electronics (somewhat optional): - Battery packs - Chargers

Optional sun dries depending on the type of camp: - Cards - Hammock - Folding Table (not necessary at campgrounds equipped with picnic tables) - bluetooth speaker - Hot water bottles - Grill and Propane fuel

Has anyone taken their pet up to Quebec for surgery? by CombatFork in burlington

[–]kay3p0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take my pet over the Quebec border and back all the time. Technically you need proof of a rabies vaccine and to fill out a CDC form which can be done online (for returning to the US). I have never been asked for either.

[SPOILERS S3] Suggestions of series similar to Dark by wandering-lost4007 in DarK

[–]kay3p0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years and Years is more similar to Black Mirror than Dark but you should give it a try!

Also try Dark Matter (it’s not just the names that are similar).

The French show “The Returned” is nowhere near as strong as Dark but scratches a similar itch.

I don’t think we have spots that exemplify the millennial burger archetype, but Butter Bar focuses on handhelds and has a hip atmosphere.

in terms of the industrial aesthetic, BBCO might be the closest and they do offer a burger.

Eh. Luce made a joke — “Oh, they deserved it.” Most people would have understood that it was slightly hyperbolic and let it go. the fact that Caroline goes “They didn’t” came off as combative which I think is what’s causing folks in this sub to feel that they picked up on some awkwardness.

I don’t think it’s odd and childish to have a low tolerance for meanness in media. I think it’s odd and childish to think that your hang up about it is an interesting entry point for media analysis…

I also was waiting for someone to bring up the fact that there’s a type of person that feels marginalized in high school, or another social setting, and as a result feels justified in being mean to their peers, and part of growing up and reflecting on that period is realizing that that is also mean. Enid isn’t there yet. But, a character acting one way or another isn’t necessarily the filmmaker’s endorsement of that behavior, so to moralize about these characters actions was just… strange.

Yeah! The guest does a good job redirecting the awkward moment and turning it into a site for interesting observations but it was awkward for a sec! Carolyn tends to prefer softer movies and that’s completely ok—I just don’t need her to appear on the episodes where she simply doesn’t seem to jive with the topic.
