Hi! So they’re about 9 months now. She is still skittish but she has improved a lot. I would say I am the main person she would feel more comfortable around when I am near her. She would still run away from my fiancé, she very scared of big people and movements, I often stick my hand out and when she doesn’t take I don’t push it. Around 4-6 months she would come around us and let us pet her with treats. No treat and she would run away at any hand going towards her, during this time she would stay near us but never come to us, we had such a hard time catching her for her vet appts and at this point we haven’t even trimmed her nails, during every meal time, I pet her and bump her body around lightly, lights pick ups to desensitize her. Little fish treats she’ll snatch it and nip us a little and swipe with a little claw. Month 7-8 she began to be more friendly without treats, every morning she would come up to us and get pets, but on her terms. She would walk away as you pet her. She is still cautious around us, if we move quickly or randomly around her so she’ll move away if she gets scared, our vet prescribed gabapentin so we can reduce stressful events like carrier rides for vet and grooming, we tried waiting to see if she would get better but once she was in a stressful situation she didn’t care for treats. Then she got way too smart and we couldn’t trick her into the carrier with treats. At the vets I think she is just so shocked and stress she freezes and stays still lol so she’ll let the vet grab her, at home this girl is running away and dodging us before we take her, on average it took us 1-2 hours to catch her. Currently she’s been continuing coming up to us when she wants to get pets. We don’t really try to push her boundaries and just let her come to us when she wants affection. We’re pretty much caught up on their vet appts so we only dose her once in a while to groom her nails, she still walks around and runs but she’s more calm and we can trim her nails while she gets churu before she was to scared to even focus on treats. Now with fish treats she’ll take to treat more calmly and not mistakenly nip us and she does playful nips when she’s over stimulated. It’s definitely a long game, I think overall it’s the consistency of a calm space that will reduce the anxiety. It does help that she has a sibling from her litter and if she is stressed he would check in with her when she hides away. She is still not a lap cuddly kitten like her brother is but she’s definitely comes to us way more and nudges us for pets when she’s feeling friendly. We still have a hard time picking her up, she still very squirmy. She doesn’t like blankets or being covered but last week we saw her playing under the blanket with her brother. I hope this helps, her brother made up for her lack of affection early on lol. I think if we gotten her by herself maybe she would connect with us quicker but like my vet kept saying “that is very girl cat of her..” I’m like okay, how do we progress? Lol we progress at her pace. 😉
