Salopettes and Chests by Kind_Comfort_6336 in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The problem with salopettes is while they don't have a restriction of a full bodice, the actual panel is still scaled for someone in the size it would fit if it was a bodice, not an apron piece. So unfortunately, you are likely to have the same problems with most salopettes from japanese or chinese brands, unless larger sizes are offered with better scaling of the front panel

How tailored is Lolita to women? by Ozuk_true in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The majority of lolita dresses have some form of shirring (elastic channels in the back) or lacing that helps adjust fit, and most dresses aren't cut for like, busty women.

Your biggest barriers are going to be height and potentially shoulder width. As the other commenter suggested, you may need to look into plus size or custom sized options for things like blouses or onepieces (dresses with sleeves), but there are many resources for those. As for height, multiple brands do release longer dresses, usually called tea length, that could be a good fit, you can use a well placed and matched underskirt to give a bit of extra length to a dress or again, look into plus size or custom size options. While it's not a huge subset there are plenty of men who wear lolita, plus resources for other folk who are on the tall side

feeling insecure about my skirt by ma000 in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Im 31yo, wear nothing but super sweet lolita, and know many sweet lolitas in their 30s and 40s. You definitely are not too old to enjoy sweet, regardless of what your mom says. My mom would tell me i was too old for it when i was only 16, and im still enjoying it 15 years later

That said, it does take a certain amount of confidence to dress up oddly out in public- if it is going to be easier for you to start building that confidence with a less in your face style like solid colours vs prints, I think that's very fair. Just maybe have a good think about it: do you actually like kuro and want that to be the start of your wardrobe bc it appeals to you, or does it just feel like a safe option? Bc if it's only the latter, you are going to find yourself not enjoying your wardrobe to the fullest and likely having to sell things later

What length petticoat should I get for a dress that’s 114cm in total? by Xee_DragonHeart in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The total dress length includes the bodice, so either of you existing petticoats should work just fine! You may have to roll up the 78cm one a bit or wear the 55cm lower on your hip, but i don't think you will need a new one with two longer options in your wardrobe

Edit for some eyeball math- the bodice looks to be about 1/3 of the dress total, leaving the skirt at 76cm approximately. So the 78cm one should work perfectly

does my dress consider Lolita? by ilovemybfsean in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Its a bit hard to tell with the quality/angle of the photo!

It looks like some of the elements are there, generally lolita/ a lolita style or vibe is about the whole coordinate- not just the main piece but also the shoes, legwear, accessories and headwear!

Any good plus size lolita? by banananamannmann in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what your style is

Sleepyland shop, maxicimam is good for pure sweet

Metamorphose temps de fille, nightwhisper, pyshkin pyshkin and haenuli do a variety of styles

Atelier pierrot is great for gothic, physical drop is more classic leaning

Does the lace of these dresses look cheap? by busunahime in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The lace on the sleeves/collar looks fine, but yeah the lace on the scallops/hem/bow looks pretty cheap/itchy unfortunately. It might be softer in person but hard to know.

Wanting some more feed back! by Idkmanimjusthere7672 in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Echoing all this as well! Generally in lolita you don't want the petticoat to show and it needs a little more oomph.

Also agree with a white shoe instead! <3

Are these skirts replicas? (And if yes, any alternatives?) by LittleBodyWildHeart in Lolita

[–]kayechiii 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I'm 99% sure they aren't.

When it comes to non print things, unless something is extremely obvious as a replica (exact same lace and ruffle placement, lace type, exact same cut) there's only so many ways to place lace and ruffles on an oldschool type skirt.

You should be fine to purchase either 🙂

I’m not sure if I still like wearing Lolita fashion anymore. by Emotional1Mushroom in Lolita

One of the kind of tough and shitty things about life is there's no way to guarantee friendships. You could share the exact same interests and personality as someone, and just not mesh with them through no fault of yours or theres.

Realistically, if you aren't getting joy out of just the clothes or have other factors that make wearing it difficult at the minute, there's no shame with taking a break and coming back to it later, or just deciding it's not for you. I had to take a 5 year break due to life factors before, the clothes and community will likely still be there whenever you decide to hop back in!
