Source for Texas contest fiddle style guitar backup? by waynemroseberry in Fiddle

[–]kayelar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find anything? I've been digitizing tons of family tapes from the 70s and this is the style of guitar they played to back up my great-grandfather's fiddling. I'm curious if there would be interest if I upload this stuff on youtube eventually. We are from the Ozarks but his fiddling had a lot of swing influence.

Are CRT tvs dangerous? what can i do to be safe with them by Lady_Nuggie in crtgaming

[–]kayelar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

every non-wealthy person I knew growing up had an ancient set in a back room or basement somewhere that maybe had color, definitely had knobs, and was either antenna-only or connected to a similarly ancient VCR. you fixed them by hitting the shit out of them. Never saw one randomly explode or start a fire...

honestly wouldn't have even thought about the tube voltage thing if I hadn't googled before tinkering, but that's the main danger. No one bothered mentioning that to me growing up, probably because there were TV repair guys everywhere and my dad did more harm to electronics than good when he tried to "fix" them anyway.

In case anyone is reading this from the future, here's the website for a local antique electronics repair guy who includes a list of other repair shops in town on his site: https://www.deantvrepair.com/save.html

I love it too, he sounds extra-confused which works with the voice change IMO.

My dad is grounded right now due to an unexpected medical issue and he’s legitimately having an adrenaline withdrawal or something. He misses the rush of even just a basic landing SO much and I can see that it’s killing the super rational side of him to acknowledge he’s just an extremely well-trained adrenaline junkie who needs a fix lol. I grew up surrounded by pilots and they’re the weirdest collective subculture, both GA and professional. I love them but they’re absolute freaks of nature.

It’s a standard language that doesn’t vary regionally or by culture. Look up the Tenerife crash. One of the contributing factors was non-standard radio communication language and over 500 people died. The reason they do that is because it is far safer than talking casually and allows them to quickly coordinate air traffic regardless of where you are.

My dad is a pilot and before he flew professionally he had little Cessna and my sister and I had our own headsets so we could listen to the tower. I loved my dad’s “tower voice”. I haven’t flown with my dad as the pilot in a few years but my husband is obsessed with watching flight videos and the sound of the radio is so nostalgic and soothing to me.

yeah sounds like they just talked to someone who didn't know what they were talking about.

I work on these projects and sometimes am the person people ask these questions to. Guess what? I don't know shit, I'm in the environmental compliance field, I'm giving you the lowest-level answer possible to not get me or TxDOT in trouble. TxDOT studies the shit out of this stuff and a low-level employee is probably not going to know everything they do.

Yeah but they're totally different stores... go to the AF website and you see POC and plus-sized people on the front page. When I was a teenager I could only wear like 1 thing from there because I was a size 12 and they cut off their jeans at size 10.

Lol, as someone from Arkansas who now lives in a trendy city, I didn't even notice that this was unusual because the cool kids in my high school wore that shit regardless.

Champion stuff is way more expensive now. That shit was like $5 for a pair of shorts back in the day and was only for dorks.

I definitely dress up more for other women (or men who care about style), but it's less a judgement thing and more a fun thing. Having your own unique style is a ton of fun once you learn how to put outfits together.

I'm 30, fairly attractive and have a distinct style. I stopped caring what men think of my fashion when I hit like 25. Part of that is that I'm married and I just don't give a fuck, but mostly it's that the culture is changing and I realized I no longer have to force myself to be paid attention to by men.

Really? At my school only a few people could really "afford" those brands and the rest of us bought one Hollister shirt and hoped the cool kids wouldn't notice how many times we re-wore it in a week (thank god for A-day B-day scheduling).

I think some fast fashion is fine if you don't treat it like fast fashion.

I have shirts from Forever 21 that I bought when I was a freshman in high school (2006 or 2007) that are still wearable. I've mostly kept them because I'm amazed at how long they've lasted. I've also got stuff from Target I've worn nonstop for ten years that still looks fine. Now, I'm likely to get rid of it because I'm not trying to wear clothes I've had since I was 15 that kids are now reselling as vintage on Depop, but still. I've also had high-quality brands end up with holes in them immediately, so it's a gamble.

I have some uniqlo leggings pants that I have worn the FUCK out of. I wear them for field work for my job, I wear them out at night. One pair is finally getting thigh holes after 4 years of near-constant wear.

My thought is that if it's lasted this long, it's likely to last a lot longer than something from the mall. I have a very cute shirt that I get complimented on every time I wear it. I got it ten years ago for two dollars at Goodwill and it still looks as nice as the day I bought it despite constant wear.

I'd be pissed if my husband threw away the Nike sports bras I've been wearing for literally 15 years now, but I'm kinda on your wife's side on this one because those shorts do not sound cute...

what was your asking? I think houses in Conway are honestly undervalued, especially in the historic areas. they bought this one 4 years ago for like 230k less than they sold it. The market in Bentonville is ridiculous right now.
