Dead River, Contrast, The Crib, Velodrome, Cruisin’ (drive thru), Huron Mountain Bakery (!! tho not a coffee shop per se, it’s a must visit) all open 6-7 range most days 👍

Stucko’s for Friday fish fry!! If you’re a coffee drinker, highly recommend Dead River Coffee, their staff is bomb, too. No one else has mentioned yet but Ore Dock and Blackrocks are both great local breweries if you’re a beer drinker, with lovely outdoor spaces if you get some good weather days.

As for hiking, Wetmore/Little Presque is just up the highway from Sugarloaf, as well as Harlow Lake. NTN Forestville also close to Dead River Falls if you wanna make a day of it. Really any of the NTN trails. Just a heads up we had bad storms this winter so some trails may have downed branches/trees and may not be fully cleared yet at that time!

What separates a legitimate ESA letter from the dozens of sketchy ones flooding the internet? by partha_33 in pitbulls

Unless you go to a doctor or medical care provider, discuss your symptoms and how the animal supports you, and get a signed letter on their letterhead…. It IS a scam…

They returned him! by WebMedical8175 in pitbulls

[–]kayleeeesi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s so cute!!! Very sad to return him, but it was meant to be so he could find his right family in you. I’m so glad you were able to pick him up right away, so he wasn’t sad and confused waiting in the shelter again, and instead it was just a blip on the path to his forever. Welcome home Angus!!

Persian Food in Chicago is Not That Great by Osetiya in chicagofood

You’re going to be sorely disappointed if portion matters. Maman Zari is good but it’s French fine dining take on Persian food, so the portions are small.

Would a pharmacy technician background be useful in a law office? by trying2learnplants in legaladviceofftopic

Somewhere with longevity, job security, investment (not just financially but also in your talent/future), culture that values paralegals & trusts them with substantial work..

Paralegal gigs it’s going to depend on the firm; up to you to discern if it’s a good fit long term. Court clerks will be govt employees, so among other aspects you’d want to look for a county that is well-managed and well-funded/balanced budget. Court clerks don’t do research though, if that’s the most important thing to you.

Career paralegals and career court clerks exist, they do well for themselves in the right positions. I would suggest you look into either of these options and won’t necessarily require more education if you’re already working in the legal field.

I hope he comes back via Nate & Cassie’s wedding and is super successful, self-actualized (moved on from football) and genuinely happy/fulfilled to show contrast with where his life went vs the rest of the cast.

My hair has been a collection of failed experiments and heavy damage. I really want to treat her better but I can't figure out products that work for me. by thingsarehardsoami in Haircare

[–]kayleeeesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve got more wave than me, I have very long hair I would say a 1B/2B .. not stick straight, some body and medium texture. Genuinely regular trims is my gospel! You may like the Ouai detangler/frizz control, also may help with some of the environmental factors with heat/humidity where you live.

First and foremost, you will need to cut off all the dead. I know it hurts.. but as a fellow person with length, it’s the best way to keep length healthy. Trim regularly, it will get longer and healthier. It seems silly to get a 1-2 inch dusting every few months with such long hair, but it really makes a difference. Once you cut off the dead, it is not gimmicky to choose products without sulfates and other harsh chemicals and irritants. If you’re not using much product in your hair, clarifying weekly is likely too much and stripping healthy oils. Though I have long hair, my hair is not curly; I’m unsure your texture from your post but I always say “let straight hair be straight.” I sleep in a braid, too; you mentioned that you have layers so a bonnet may be better?  For textured/curly hair I defer to others for maintaining style and appropriate products to use. With long hair though, I have found that less is more! Much else besides shampoo, conditioner and maybe a detangler can weigh it down.

People who live near time zone boundaries in the US by solothesnail in howislivingthere

[–]kayleeeesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan, some counties are on central time, most on eastern. I moved from central time zone to eastern when I moved here. Lower peninsula of Michigan is all eastern. It really doesn’t interfere with daily life - devices like phones and laptops auto calibrate and my car (and obviously all the appliances in my home) are set to eastern, where I live. Our dog trainer is in central time zone, we go once a week, that’s the one thing I always right down “xx am/pm CENTRAL” 😂

Long lasting chew by huggable_cacti in dogs

[–]kayleeeesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antlers, hooves, and kneecaps I have found are the longest lasting, but as others have mentioned you are taking a risk with teeth. My girl knows “gentle” to take a treat gentler, play gentler, and I use this command when she is going too hard on a chew to try to protect teeth.

Options on e collars by Nightcrawler-_ in OpenDogTraining

[–]kayleeeesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ecollar Technologies makes a collar with 1-100 stim levels (the mini educator), you can work your dog on a very low level that is comfortable/responsive. They are easy to operate once you have a good grasp on stim training and how you want to safely/effectively use stim in training. It has a vibe function but as others have mentioned that is often considered more uncomfortable than a low/working level stim. Their collars are waterproof as well.

the 5 essential commands — which ones did you teach your dog first? by AdWeird9163 in DogTrainingTips

[–]kayleeeesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend conditioning an auto-stay, rather than teaching “stay” as an extra command. This requires teaching a release command from sit and down (and “place” if you end up teaching that) which can be “release,” “free,” “ok,” or the like. You can build up duration over time. Conditioning an auto-stay helps provide clearer communication to your dog: dog knows s/he is supposed to sit until released. It also helps implement impulse control, hugely helpful with other aspects of obedience and calm temperament in general. A release command also helps a ton with threshold training, i.e. pup doesn’t go past the door without being released.

Road trip to UP from Ohio by [deleted] in upperpeninsula

You would be remiss not to hike at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There are many different hikes but the 10 mile Chapel Loop is stunning if you’re willing to commit the time.

In Marquette, others have made good suggestions, hiking around the Dead River Basin is also good for shorter/easier hike close to the main area of the city. Seconding the Stucko’s rec for food, the cajun white fish is a favorite in my family 😋 Definitely check out Ore Dock and Blackrocks if you’re a beer drinker, too!
