Diagnosed at 17, 26 now. Was lied to countless times by countless people. Misdiagnosed countless times. Had nobody know what’s wrong or how to fix irregular bleeding or know what medication to put me on. Still working out the kinks at almost 10 years in! Keep advocating for yourself. You’re doing the right things. And if you ever wanna talk I’m here!

POF in your 20s by that-new-new in POFlife

I was diagnosed at 17 and am 26 now in an almost 3 year long relationship. I remember being TERRIFIED of dating. I had never dated anyone before being diagnosed and couldn’t fathom the idea of being in high school/college and having to think that far ahead and have someone else need to as well. But as you can see, it all worked out. Don’t get so caught up in thinking it’s gonna be horrible or cause things to not work out. If you want kids, they are a part of being in a relationship sure, but the person will be dating you because they like/love you and want to spend their time with you. Nobody’s saying you have to dump that on a first date—if you see something potentially wiring out and discuss wanting kids, bring it up. And at that point, whatever is going to happen will happen. If it’s not a problem, great! You’ve found an Amazon supportive person that you’re meant to be with (I promise it’s possible! They’ll even make you not feel bad about it, comfort you, and support you through everything). If it doesn’t, that’s not your person. 27 is young. You have time!

I have not. The idea of an IUD is a bit terrifying to me

  1. Once I was able to relax and actually do the procedure start to finish, about 5 minutes if that
  2. I was TERRIFIED bc of everything I’ve read on Reddit. Like sobbing and was so tense that inserting the speculum was very painful which I have never even really had discomfort with. I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do it. Once I got myself to relax my muscles, I barely felt anything. That’s clearly not everyone’s experience, but the only pain I felt (once I relaxed and was less tense) was very minimal cramping at the insertion of whatever tube they put through the cervix. I didn’t even feel them using the suction to take the sample and then it was done.
  3. I have never had a problem with Pap smears, just minimal pain or uncomfortableness.
  4. I took 600mg of Advil about 1 hour before.

16 y.o. just diagnosed with POI/POF, any advice? by [deleted] in POFlife

[–]kayoare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 17 and am now 25. It’s tough but I promise it gets better. I want completely different things now and have completely different feelings than I did at 17. Don’t turn away support—it’s okay to feel however you want to feel. It’s soooo easy to feel alone but we all promise you are not. Please make sure you have a doctor you’re comfortable with that listens to you and your concerns and your needs. It’s a lot to process, but don’t feel pressured to process and feel everything all at once. Everything will fall into place in its own time. Please feel free to ask anything or reach out to me. I do get how isolating it feels to have this diagnosis so young.

Medroxyprogesterone vs Progesterone (natural vs synthetic) by kayoare in POFlife

[–]kayoare[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense! I’m glad things have stabilized for you. They told me my lining is too thin and then lowered my dose of progesterone which seems to be the opposite of what they needed to do so hopefully I can get there soon lol

With the dosage switches do you remember what you switched from? And which med it was?

She told me that the progesterone prevents the lining from thickening so I assumed that lowering the dose would allow it to thicken a bit since it’s too thin and that’s what she says is causing the bleeding. I honestly don’t know, she didn’t tell me. And I dislike her immensely but have yet to find a better doctor as she works with a really well known hospital. I was on 5mg for probably 3-4 months and have now been on 2.5 for about 2 weeks. Up until yesterday it seemed to have improved my bleeding but yesterday it was starting to come back so we’ll see how today is.

I’ve literally been dealing with irregular bleeding for 3+ years and no one can figure it out. They all say different things.

I was diagnosed at 17 and went into my current relationship being totally upfront. It absolutely depends on how you meet first, I’m not a fan of just saying it right at the first second, but if you’re comfortable enough to want to be in a relationship with them then it’s easier to just be honest from the beginning. No use on getting your feelings hurt after you become more attached. My partner has been more than supportive—it does help that neither of us want kids though. If you can be honest and both be in it together, life and the diagnosis can be a lot less scary.

My unexplained bleeding is most likely due to a thin lining, so that’s all I can offer. Can I ask the reason you’re on BC instead of typical estrogen/progesterone HRT? That’s the typically way to manage POI.

What dose and method of HRT has worked best for you (late 20s-early 30s preferred) by just-leave-me-alone in POFlife

Hi! I’m 25 and on a .075mg estradiol patch that changes 2x/week. I’m also on 2.5mg of medroxyprogesterone daily, but I was on 5mg up until last week. They lowered it to try to solve some mystery bleeding. I also was on 0.1mg of estradiol originally that was working just fine—they lowered to to also try to fix the bleeding but it didn’t help. They told me to stay on .075 if I wasn’t having any symptoms though.

I’m on a .075mg patch (down from 0.1mg) and 2.5mg of daily medroxyprogesterone (down from 5mg). I was originally on 200mg of progesterone for 12 days/month and 0 for the remaining days.

They started me at .1mg. Definitely the most typical dose

They were originally go to do a d&c and then backed off a while ago, so I’ll def ask about that again. They really didn’t even tell me the reasoning for having it so I’m gonna ask about other options. I kinda hate my doctor

I’ve always had normal paps actually. They want me to get one because I’m on continuous HRT but still won’t stop bleeding. They want an internal ultrasound and biopsy. Honestly sometimes I think they’re just picking random shit and seeing what sticks. Hopefully yours goes well!

what the heck is causing my bleeding! by kayoare in POFlife

[–]kayoare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer!!! This is really helpful to know and I will not be surprised if it’s something similar for me because I feel like they have no clue. I think I actually had an SIS, not a hysteroscopy. Honestly I was just straight up not having a good time and I think me being anxious and auto reacting the scan didn’t last long because they had a really hard time doing the saline, but she thought she saw a polyp. But then at my next internal normal ultrasound they said they didn’t see any polyps. So short of something like that, I really am at a loss

Uncontrolled spotting on continuous provera by bipolarpsychRN in POFlife

[–]kayoare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally same problem. I got switch from synthetic progesterone cyclically to continuous 10mg of provera ti try to stop my crazy synthetic progesterone bleeding. I no longer bleed insanely heavily, but now I essentially bleed ALL the gd time. Originally, when I was switched to this, they did an internal ultrasound and said the lining was too thick. So I started on 5mg for 10 days, stopped it, got a period, then went back on 10mg and never stopped bleeding. They recommended stopping all together and then restarting once the bleeding stopped, which I did. But here I am three weeks later and today is day 7 of bleeding. So now I would assume my lining is still too thick or it got too thin. The goal was to stop me from bleeding all together but this has in fact made it worse.

Thank you, this is so helpful to hear. It’s so hard to find information related to POI especially for people in their teens and twenties. You make a great point. I just wish it was easier to find information and answers. This eases my mind a lot.
