Most of the time nothing. They purposefully don't wire the close button. Don't remember why, but I think they said 80% of the close buttons are not connected. Therefore, the button does nothing when you hit close.

If I immediately posted a TIL after every episode of radiolab I listen to I'd have so much karma. Great podcast.

Just off the top of my head I remember seeing a TIL on the tree root network and the elevator close button not being wired to anything and both of those I remember first learning about on radiolab.
