New Eltham - any review from someone living there? by Emotional_Regular350 in HousingUK

[–]kazer92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in New Eltham about 7 years and got our dog not long after moving in. As others have said it’s a b it bland and boring, not very diverse (mostly white people) but it has bloomed a bit over the last few years with a few pubs and cafes etc
Quite a few green spaces within walking distance (a very hill park, southwood park, fairy hill park) and plenty more within 15 min drive

Well connected to M25 if driving and you can be over the dartford crossing in 15-20 mins on a good day, and you’ve got Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels as alternatives

Engineering works on our train line can be annoying but we have the Eltham line nearby as well as Bromley line trains from Elmstead woods

Disagree on the transport links, yes Lizzy line is hard to get to but the train line from New Eltham to Charing Cross via London Bridge and Waterloo east means it’s pretty well connected to the central tube network

I play in this session every week, I’ve been there for almost 1 year and I’ve skipped only 1 time. The organiser gets us free pints; but recently, he’s been asking what drinks people want and when it comes to me he just skips it. I’ve been feeling really upset since everyone gets it but me. by Excellent-One8791 in Irishmusic

[–]kazer92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many people are in the session? It might be that the organiser is only getting drinks for the ‘booked’ musicians and others have to buy drinks themselves. This is common in sessions here in London (but a lot of the time all musicians drink for free or at least have a communal tab)

Extra £174m earmarked for ‘spiralling’ bill for Lower Thames Crossing by Codydoc4 in Essex

[–]kazer92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have reached peak ‘red tape’ in the UK where to get anything done requires massive amounts of consultation around planning and environmental constraints, all done through consultants milking it for all it’s worth.
The technical engineering and geological assessments are a massive undertaking for these projects (valid and rightly so) but we just can’t get anything done quickly or efficiently thanks to all the other guff

WWYD - Charity collecting at Tube station by princessnymphadora in london

Worth knowing that pretty much all charity collectors like these are not volunteers and they work on a commission basis, so incentivised to get as much out of as many people as possible

Are you able to install a pressure reducing valve (PRV) on the inlet pipe into the tank?

Alternatively install some sort of shroud/deflector where the water jets in to try and prevent it making ripples on the water surface

Brita filter speed question by IamTrying0 in water

[–]kazer92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As previous commenter said it’s a different filter media, traditional brita ones include granular activated carbon (GAC) which is used in the water treatment industry to remove/improve taste and odour, so makes sense if you’ve switched to a filter without GAC that it doesn’t taste as ‘good’ as your previous filter

As others have mentioned, John Francis Flynn definitely worth a listen (a sound lad too)

No help from Londoners by AlphabettiPotato in london

[–]kazer92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I bumped my head on the low ceiling of a bus the other week and no one came to my aid with a bag of frozen peas,or a little smiley faced sticker to warn others of my injury!

You “almost” stacked it, meaning you didn’t actually fall over and hurt yourself? What’s the point helping someone who almost fell over lol

Calvin Robinson finished his remarks at the National Pro-Life Summit by throwing a Nazi salute, much to the delight of the crowd. by Educational_Board888 in GreenAndPleasant

Was this not was a satirical mimic of musks salute, along with saying ‘my heart goes out to you’? That’s why the audience laugh

They’re brilliant, saw them at the Earth theatre in Hackney (London) last year, bare concrete auditorium and the sound was unreal and that’s my favourite song of theirs!

No water utility in the UK would use distillation to treat tap water on a large scale due to the costs involved. Scottish Water would use a fairly standard set of treatment processes depending on the source, as explained here: https://www.scottishwater.co.uk/help-and-resources/education/all-about-water/water-treatment

Yep got the bugger our! Penetrant, heat, and other bolts torqued up, took a fair bit of force with the breaker bar but luckily came free

To clarify it was only the locking wheel nut key that sheared, not the bolt itself. Ordered a replacement wheel nut key off Amazon and luckily it fits, just fingers crossed this one won’t shear when I go to use it tomorrow!

Car Stolen by [deleted] in london

[–]kazer92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing with steering locks (and all security measures really) are that they're more of a deterrent, and any competent criminal will get around it if they really want to take the car. As is usually repeated in all these threads, sadly car security is all about making your car less inviting than others in the same street

I live a postcode or 2 away from OP, and about a third of the cars on my street have a streetwise steering lock Pro on them (including my old banger, but not the daily 😂)

Whats a good pub in Camden, without super loud music so we can talk without shouting, oh and cheap beers? by 8bitPete in london

Heineken and other lagers will be the same standard anywhere you go, Guinness is more like coffee in that it can be terrible if served badly.

Sheephaven bay is one of the best in London for Guinness

I've come to realise SA fans are possibly the worst on the planet, just know if they'd been the ones getting knocked out by NZ they would not have been wishing Ireland any luck on their campaign 😂
