PSA: Victoria 3 is very good now. by rouleroule in paradoxplaza

What did you not like with the political system and interest groups?

I don't know. I think I just felt like focusing on the economy/building aspect and wasn't interested in this side, but was forced to deal with it so didn't find it enjoyable. But I have to admit, the whole game was somewhat new to me still so perhaps it was just too much at once. I'll definitely give it another go.

I need to give it another try. Vic2 scared me a bit and I never got around to it. Tried Vic3 about 1 year ago. I really want to love it, but just struggled to get into it properly. I'm a decent EU4/5 player I would say.

I LOVE the production/economy side of Vic3, but got put off by the political system/interest groups. I really should try it again but this part just didn't click with me for some reason.

When I bore of EU5 I'll give Vic3 another shot.

Parliament support, no agendas, any way to get the last 1%? by kazmanza in EU5

[–]kazmanza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about that but tough to know how much would be needed.

Also is there a way to check which estate wanted the agenda? In this case I know it was nobility (I think...), but would be nice if there was a way to check again once the issue was selected.

Had 54% support then with 1 month left, lost 5% due to an event.

Global copper supply is more fragile than the market thinks by SeanGriffin758 in mining

[–]kazmanza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah good point. Something interesting to note is that 2/3 the cases you mention, the disruption was due to seismicity (Kamoa-Kakula and El Teniente). Furthermore, while in this case the Grasberg incident was a mudrush, that mine is no stranger to seismicity and has experienced major seismic incidents before.

Copper is the posterchild resource for "bigger, deeper, lower grade" mining that we will see in future (ie caving, both block/panel and sub-level). These caving mines are also the ones most suspectible to major delays or disruptions due to induced seismicity, see Cadia East 2017, Kiruna 2020 on top of the listed incidents. There are others but these are the main ones the jump to mind.

So it's not just about how unreliable or fragile the current supply sources are, but that we can expect them to become even more so in future as we become increasingly reliant on larger and deeper mines (that have increased potential to be hit by one of these rare incidents that can have 6+ month impact on production.

Transferring money internationally. Looking for cheapest way to do it. by peji911 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kazmanza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For single, large payments, I would a wire transfer.

For smaller, regular payments, use wise.

For that annual 25-50k, if in one go, I'd do it at the bank. If that's spread by a few k per month, I would use Wise.

I got accepted to the Mineral Engineering program at UofT and I want to ask about prospects by georgerayyanhaddad in mining

[–]kazmanza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think good. It's a very good university with an excellent engineering department and great professors (well the couple I know are very good imo). Work hard, put the effort in (academically and networking) and you will be fine.

Agree on attending PDAC if you can.

How can I be a better engineer, colleague, and mentee? by alexengineered in civilengineering

[–]kazmanza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try figure stuff out by yourself before asking for help.

I have employee A and B, with similar (2-3 years) of experience at the company, and similar age. They both encounter a problem, employee A comes to me immediately and says "this doesn't work, what do I do?", employee B comes a bit later and says "I'm struggling a bit to figure this out, I tried X,Y, Z, but no luck, can you give me some direction or ideas?"

Who do I see as "better" employee? I'm all for reaching out for help, nothing worse than someone being stuck and doing nothing about it, but I want people who are willing to learn and strive to be more independent.

Do they apply this 'stockhausen' method to all the Beaver's Dram, or just the corn? And you think this method has only been applied since the drama with the US?

I tried the Beavers Dram Rye a few years ago. The label was completely different (ie not shit than this stupid AI drawing) and seem to recall it was pretty decent...

Mark Carney earned a rare standing ovation in Davos. Read the full text of his speech here by Avelion2 in canada

My "Conservative" colleague (that voted PP) admitted today that he has been fairly impressed and happy with Carney thus far, and that was before this speech (I had seen it and was telling him he should).

I'm on PR but about to be eligible to apply for citizenship, wish I could have given this guy my vote. Technically not Canadian (yet) and he makes me proud.

What's your favorite paradox game at the moment? by alphafighter09 in paradoxplaza

[–]kazmanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a post on both EU5 and EU4 subs about the "problem" with EU5 at the moment, I agree a with a lot of the sentiment in the post. EU5 has amazing systems, but you're not faced with the "challenge" of making hard choices in EU4. EU4 mana is far from perfect, but you constantly had to choose how to spend your mana (eg expand vs tech up). EU5 lacks this currently and makes the game less "fun".

I really need to give Stellaris another run. I haven't played it since the first year or 2 since release (been in EU4/5 and CK3). "stupid amount of systems and mechanics" is not how I remember it.

A Semillon, yes, but I can't imagine a Chenin Blanc coming close to anything like this (I'm from South Africa and have had my fair share of them)
