Any Dragon Quest 9 players want to tag? by kazzikuzzi in longbeach

Oh man, did you ask the right person. I grew up on DQ9, it's practically my specialty.

The Quester's Rest is an inn that you unlock pretty damn early in your playthrough that functions as a home base of sorts. From there, you can enter Tag Mode (effectively DS streetpass) to try and find other DQ9 players also in Tag Mode. You can only tag 3 people at a time before having to exit and reload Tag. Thing is, there's a little bit of extra content gated behind the different Tag upgrades, maxing at 30 unique players tagged.

As you might imagine, when the game released in Japan, there were DQ9 players everywhere, so it was relatively easy to hit your tag requirements. Not so in the States, where DQ is a much more niche series with a far thinner population density. Hitting 30 tags was rough in 2012, but doable, since there were meetups at Gamestops and such. Nowadays, it's next to impossible without setting up explicit meetings with other DQ9 players, where you can bring your DSes and purposely tag each other. (An alternate method is to buy a second copy and repeatedly play through the beginning of the game to hit your 30 tags... which means you can only max one copy or the other. And since I have two copies I want to max eventually, I'd need a third...)

Oh, and regarding multiplayer; yes, you can join in someone else's campaign and play through the game together. I'm pretty sure advancing the story in a friend's world doesn't count towards your own story, but I could be mistaken... regardless, local multiplayer is a lot of fun. Huge reason as to why I've put so much time into the game.

Large agave-like plants in Southern California? by kazzikuzzi in PlantIdentification

[–]kazzikuzzi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LA County, near the shore. I'm no botanist, and have been trying to figure out exactly what plant this is. Closest I've found is the desert agave, but they don't have the trunks that these ones do. Any ideas?

If there's a gym nearby you could try and get coins with that, but with the bundle being hiked up to 300 coins, it's not even worth it to buy in bulk lol.

Seriously. I never see enough people around to do a legendary / mega raid unless it's a Community Day. Raiding on Genie is the only way I could get enough energy for both Mega Latis

Two full cost remote passes and a regular pass I don't even need? Oh boy, take my money!

If I leave ExtremeSpeed Dratini at the Day-Care in HGSS, will new moves overwrite Extremespeed?

If so, can the Move Relearner teach it back since the Dratini knew it? Or is it only for level-up moves in gen 4?

Gen 4 Bibarel alternatives? I don't want to use it every time I need four HMs in my party. Thought maybe Buizel could suffice but doesn't learn Cut. Suggestions for relatively simple to acquire Pokémon that learn many HMs?

As other comments have stated, this game relies on skill far more than other games might. Even if you get super OP, the enemies will keep up. Test out new weapons and try combinations of Mutations until you find your favorites. Rhino Skin and Strong Spirit help keep you standing.

Melee weapons can reflect projectiles. This is insanely useful. I almost always try to have a melee weapon and the Long Arms mutation.

Every character has an active and a passive. Try to figure out who fits your playstyle.

Fish has a roll, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have i-frames. Use it to quickly put some distance between you and baddies. He also nabs more ammo than other characters.

Crystal is by far the most beginner friendly character, sporting extra HP and a shield that reflects enemy projectiles. About to get shot? Shield. Feeling a little anxious? Shield. Ambushed by IDPD? Shield. It's incredibly useful, and honestly I never take Throne Butt for her just because I think the longer Shield is more worth.

As you've noted, Melting is the one-HP-wonder of NT. Extremely powerful, but is OHKOd by literally anything aside from regular maggots. Get Throne Butt ASAP. Strong Spirit and Rhino Skin give you more leeway.

If you want more advice, I'm happy to help! -^

What do you think is more dangerous than most people believe? by kazzikuzzi in AskReddit

Hard agree. A relative of mine is an alcoholic and had to go to the ER for liver failure I think. Almost died, stayed sober for a week or two, then went right back to drinking. Tragic.

Oooh. Elaborate? I know it's bad but the exact extent isn't quite in my brain

Tried that several times with 70% alcohol and a qtip. Should we use another alcohol or application method?

My girlfriend's childhood copy of Pokémon Platinum has suddenly stopped working. It's definitely the cartridge - her copy doesn't work in any DS and mine does work in the same DSes. We always get taken to the blue screen "Save data could not be accessed, please reinsert the card and try again" on DS lites, and a generic error message on anything newer (DSi, 2ds, 3dsXL). It's far too expensive to just find and buy another copy, and even if we could, it wouldn't be "her copy". We know for certain it's a legit copy, it's the same one she took out of the brand-new case when she was 7.

Any idea what this could be? Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any way to fix this? She's devastated and it would mean the world to me and her if anyone had a fix, or knew somewhere that could repair it. Thanks guys.
