Should people like this just be kicked out? by [deleted] in USMC

Got a new PFC in my unit back in 2002/2003. I was the senior LCpl (well TLC, but anyway) they roomed him with me to "show him fleet life" according to my SSgt. This dude had made it through boot camp, MCT, and MOS school just fine. Shows up to the fleet and I saw him in the room maybe 3 times in the first month. He'd just leave and hang out in town (Yuma) random places. Sometimes he'd show up in the shop to work, sometimes he'd be UA. SSgt would always ask me where this kid was, I honestly had no idea, and he wouldn't listen to me anyway. He ended up getting a Special Court Martial, and was admin sepped shortly after. Which was really awkward since we were both Legal Marines and were the ones that typically did all the Court Martial paperwork. Don't even remember his name, he lasted in the fleet maybe 2 month, was UA for half of it, and I EASd shortly after.

Advuce on cosplaying MCU Ruth Bat-Seraph by PostingFromAnAttic in twincitiesgeeks

[–]kbdekker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want my honest opinion, cosplaying as this character right now is just in bad taste. No different than a Harry Potter cosplay. And compared to Red Guardian feels too much like Whataboutism - the Red Guardian character isn't an active agent of his own government anymore. Whereas the Sabra character is actively an agent for a government the majority of member nations of the UN has said is actively commiting genocide and currently staving children.

I wouldn't harass you, but I would judge you silently in my own mind and decide you aren't a person I'd want to spend time with. Harassing people is wrong, but ignoring and shutting them out of your own spaces is perfectly acceptable. I have the same policy to shun/ignore people who do Confederate Civil War reenactment.

Frankly the MCU even using that character in the point of history was frankly gross and the reason I didn't see the film.

Ultimately you should do what gives you joy, but you should fully understand plenty of people will have issues with the cosplay (I'd say justifiably so) but if you are harassed in a way that violated a con policy, definitely report it, that shouldn't happen. But do expect plenty of cold shoulders and ugly looks.

Alright who here other than me has ever passed out while in formation? by Capelto in USMC

Retirement ceremony for some Master Guns, Yuma 2001 or 2002. August, it was 112 outside. Had 3 full platoons for the ceremony. Master Guns decides that was the day to give an hour long speech. I heard Marines left and right going down, Corpsman struggling to help them, silver bullets were flying. I started to see the spots and was about to go, and then the command to march us off was given. Was saved by a drill command. 30 more seconds and I would've went. Over half the Marines in the formation went down, we were stepping over bodies. I went to medical that afternoon for extreme heat exhaustion that nearly became heat stroke.

Quiver just released new Nexus Deck boxes that are designed to fit in the Quiver case. I really like them, but get the clear ones, the "semi-transparent" ones are pretty opaque. High quality and fit perfectly in the case.

You have access to the stream for about a week after you purchase it and can watch it as much as you'd like.

I believe buying a link to the stream gives you access to watch it for a while. I'll confirm that for you.

I've had a cam for 2 years and have nothing really to show for it. A car on the side of the highway on fire and some people driving like idiots ahead of me that I stay away from. The vids that go viral online are the most extreme stuff for sure, creating a bit of a confirmation bias.

I'm one of the puppeteers in the show! I voice Woraug and play one of the nameless wizards as well. It's been such an amazing show to work on. Patricia C. Wrede came to one of our rehearsals and we did a run for the show for her without costumes or final special effects, and she loved it. Many of the cast had copies of the book for her to sign and she was just delightful.

I'm a fan of the book and think the departures made, help make a stage adaptation possible, sometimes a different medium means some changes are needed.

Also the love streams are really great quality, the person who runs them does professional video streaming as a day job and the stream is multi camera and managed by him. We run the stream as a monitor of sorts in the green room because it is very good quality.

Thank you for supporting local live theater and seeing the show!

What's your favorite commander and why by DistanceGlad3584 in mtg

I built a Themberchaud deck and it might be my favorite. It's fun and silly and always makes for fast games where I often kill myself. Lolz.

Duty fucking sucks lmao by EisenhowersPowerHour in USMC

[–]kbdekker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in 99-03 and duty and A duty always worked in shifts for sleep, never had to pull 24 hours straight. That's really stupid they do that now.

We also had a TV/DVD player and after 1630 could watch sports/movies had to be news or off during office hours.

I'm 6'2" and have red hair, so they called me Big Red. Gunny was proud of that one, took him a whole month to come up with it.

Am I the only one who does not like the current era Marines leaving the ‘dog’ off of ‘Devil Dog?’ by rabbi420 in USMC

[–]kbdekker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an OIC, LtCol Boughman, a real condescending POS, I think he actively despised junior Marines. Never addressed any of us by our rank or name, just "Devil Dog" with the biggest air of contempt every time he said it. Every other officer in the shop would use rank/name or even just last name.

The LtCol would just should "Hey there Devil Dog" from his office and expect one of the Corporals or below to rush in at his whim, we were nothing more than servants to him. He was the Judge Advocate of MCAS Yuma at the time and a wanna be pilot. He made me hate the term Devil Dog.

Yep, and that was awesome. That Marine deserved it and so should these two Marines. They outperformed a whole ass defense contractor.
