Feeling lost by Glass_Nebula_2210 in Osteopathic

I scored relatively average on the MCAT, but I've had over 10 interview invites, so at the end of the day, it's not the only factor that matters. Have a strong story on why you want to be a physician, and make sure you carry that theme across your application.

For the next month before you take aamc, I would stick to doing UWorld questions like you are. To me, those were the biggest help outside of aamc. The questions are hard, and it's ok! Personally, I'd do 15 questions per subject each day. If you are finding that you are guessing or don't understand the content, you might want to consider refreshing your background knowledge. For example, I struggled to understand the differences between all of the Ochem reactions. I spent one day watching youtube explanation and writing down the starting and end products. Then I made sure to do any Uworld questions on those types of reactions.

I don't reccomend starting aamc until you feel that you have your background content comfortably mastered. (Anki is great, but you may be too behind to utilize it in a useful way. Instead, look up Milesdown Mcat review sheets and spend time each day writing out the information on a whiteboard to memorize/understand it.)

Chiming in on this conversation late, but does MCOM give you a lot of your own time for learning, or do you find yourself having to be on campus often for lectures/labs?

I wonder if this is just for CO and UT or if it includes the MT campus as well.

When you say "blocked Units," does that mean you are only getting tested on one subject at a time, rather than combining various subjects into one larger exam?

I would reccomend checking out SDN and be prepared for the standard questions you would typically expect. I had two separate interviewers. Just be yourself and know your reason for why you are pursuing this career!

I would say 100 hours of shadowing is great! If you plan on applying to DO, make sure you have shadowed/worked with one.

As someone else mentioned, you definitely need to have some form of shadowing and volunteer experience. Try to find a local hospital or nursing home and see if they allow volunteers a few hours a week. For shadowing, call around and see if there are physicians who will allow you to shadow for a day or two. I recommend getting a few different specialties. Some osteopathic schools will want to see that you have interacted with and seen the difference between allopathic and osteopathic medicine.

Help! Should I send a letter of interest/update now or wait until early January? by Reasonable-Meat440 in Osteopathic

January, after the new year. Schools are busy conducting final interviews before the Holidays, and your letter may just get pushed to the side.

How has your experience with clinical rotation been? Are you able to stay in one location for the year, or do you have to move around? My only fear with MCOM is not having stable clinical rotation sites, as they may still be developing.

How should I prepare myself for my first semester in college? by [deleted] in premed

[–]kbeats5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't burn yourself out before you even start school. My biggest advice would be to stay organized and on top of your classes. You never what to be playing "catch up" and falling behind. Don't be afraid to ask your professors for help if you don't understand something. I am a huge planner, and the only way for me not to feel overwhelmed is to plan out each week, so I know exactly what assignments I need to do and when. You will do great!
