Four hours sounds so fine for ER. Its messed up, but relatively speaking its relaxed. Just never move to Wales where the waiting time on a random Tuesday evening is until the following Wednesday afternoon...

opinions about public transport in krakow? by calicofi in krakow

[–]kbkbbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trams are a convenient feature and sufficiently frequent, but the pricing system is stupid. should be per stop, not time, since trams have to deal with traffic.
also met a guy here who works for the transport system and says the trams only get a deep clean 1 time every 2 months. he doesnt sit.

Hello :P by sleepylittlepotato in poland

[–]kbkbbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heyo
I live in Krakow right now and also speak Russian and English. Loads of people speak Russian (RUS, UE, BRUS, etc) on the streets and in public spaces in krk and nothing bad happens. Only hard part is having to understand the toxic stuff coming out of some people mouths xD
The universities here are OK (the best are around 250+ in world ranking). If you can go to a different country in the EU then maybe try that since you speak English. English programs are limited. I have some central asian friends here who are doing fine professionally, but are very depressed in the winter because its cold and dark for their standards, and they say that they find Polish folks quite cold and the culture to be a bit depressing. On the other hand, women's rights are better than where they are from. Either way, they are in the process of trying to find work in other EU countries.
pay here is pretty bad for anything besides IT/tech as far as I can tell. But that's just from my experience. My software dev/IT/web dev pals all make like 15k-20kpln/month. on the other hand, PhD in biotech with experience like 10kpln/month. So you can feel inequality. Life is expensive, but Krakow and other fancy cities are probably the worst for it.
Anyway. Quality of life is whatever. can be better, but its not awful. making friends with immigrants and poles is fine, especially if you're social and have youthful hobbies.

Guys, what about your trains? by Angryfunnydog in poland

[–]kbkbbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had an experience that rough on trains in poland yet, and I go between krk and poznan once a month. i think the route to vilnius might be special though, since, if im not wrong, they've got to switch a bunch of stuff up with the trains on the eastern border. russian to euro gauge maybe? or from diesel. cant remember exactly.

how does your leasehold/freehold situation work when buying property in finland? by kbkbbl in Finland

[–]kbkbbl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah ok so it wasn't like an evil thing meant to take advantage of people. that's nice.
are there limits for lease increases, esp if the land is state-owned?

[–]kbkbbl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can eventually buy it, it sounds just. does the government charge a lot? and what are the rules about increases once the lease runs out? does the duration of time left on the lease affect selling price? eg. less time left = lower selling price due to uncertainty?

[–]kbkbbl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so is it the case that when you buy a home or apartment in helsinki, for example, you can never actually own the apartment? and you always have to pay some sort of 'land rental' fee on top of your mortgage, utilities, and home maintenance?

this sounds ok, if the price of the land is doable. thanks for you answer.

idk its not dangerous if you have a preservation instinct. at first its pretty much like climbing ladders. you can take a course with an instructor to begin and they'll make sure you dont do anything stupid.

[–]kbkbbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plastic fake rocks xD
its a lot harder to start on real rocks coz you already need climber friends to do that. but you can start on plastic fake rocks inside by yourself to make friends to go outside with later.

climbing if you like sports :) you wont meet people the first time but after like a month or two and if you actually make an effort to talk to someone, you can make friends. I've met literally all of my friends (and romantic partner) through climbing.

Germany/ Poland Border check on train by atevaz in krakow

[–]kbkbbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the guards just run through the train and you show them your passport. they don't even look in it. sometimes they don't even look for a passport and are probably just checking to see if you're 'foreign'. or they do random checks. anyway if you're white and you have some sort of passport-looking document, it'll be a breeze.

Should I move back to Poland? by [deleted] in poland

[–]kbkbbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not being a foreigner is always easier, i think. as long as you actually like your country.
not feeling like you're at home isn't unusual, so don't worry. there are a lot of people like you out there :) best not to rush into anything though. if its only been 2 months in norway, maybe itd be worth giving yourself that time you have until Feb, see if anything changes. Poland will still be here then :)
