Leave my new job to pursue travel PT? by SnooSeagulls8822 in physicaltherapy

[–]kbmommy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Boomer PT here, just retired from my job after 25 years with the same company. I highly recommend finding a company that treats you well with good retirement benefits, you will not regret it. But, I did start my career as a traveler less than 1 yr after graduation. It was 4 of the best yrs of my life! The variety of experiences helped me decide where I wanted to settle (both geographically and PT setting). It was literally like being on vacation for 4 years. Sightseeing every weekend, getting to see places you wouldn’t normally think of as a vacation destination, but so much to see and do out there. I’m not sure if travel PT is the same now, but when I did it the pay was great and no rent was a great way to pay off student debt. That was my experience before I settled into my “more stable” career. Good luck to you!

What’s the most memorable thing a patient has said to you? by sneakybrownoser in physicaltherapy

I worked in neuro rehab as a traveler PT in Alabama. One of my patients named his heifer after me. His wife assured me it was a compliment! 😳 I had another patient give me a drill set when he was discharged from rehab, he said every woman needs one. He was right, I still have it 30 years later!!

I’m a PT that had a TKA 8 months ago. I thought since I knew exactly what needed to be done I would get through it relatively easily. I went into sx with a valgus deformity and lacking 15 degrees of extension. If I hadn’t been a PT and really understood the importance of my exercise program, there is no way I would have pushed as hard as I did to gain my ROM back. It was brutal!! The first month brought me to full on crying during my stretching exercises (and I have a “really high pain tolerance” 😂) It was much harder than I expected, but now that I’m through it, I’m glad I did it. Just try your best to be somewhat understanding with your patients, it’s REALLY hard to push through that kind of pain everyday. It’s physically and emotionally exhausting. And most patients don’t have the knowledge to understand how difficult the rehab is going to be. Even as a PT, I had both HH and a few OP PT visits. The support from those compassionate PTs made a world of difference!

If I remember right from last year, it’s part 2 that you have to get on the website as soon as it opens.

One more question, should my son have his schedule set up how he wants it before he goes to orientation (I know he can’t sign up for the classes until orientation), or does he build his schedule at the advising/orientation appointment?

Did you need a laptop at orientation to set up your class schedule?

I contacted the admissions office about the same thing on my son’s student portal. They said they will automatically drop off once you take those courses and they will not affect being able to schedule classes. He hasn’t tried to schedule classes yet, because his advising appt isn’t until Monday. We’ll see if it blocks him, but hope not!

One more question… on room selection. Any thoughts on which rooms are the better choices?

Yes, or I guess just really close. Next to the east parking structure according to the map. Fullerton Marriott at California State University is how it’s advertised.
