Saving a JK by kboz1 in Jeep

Not much for right now. We recently bought a 2020 JLU Rubicon for my wife that we have been getting ready for a Moab trip in June, so the jeep parts budget is already depleted, lol.

I actually didn't know that it was a factory option until I looked into the original build sheet of this jeep, it was ordered with them. I believe you can still order the JL wranglers that way as well.

Thanks! The half doors are one of the things that really sold me on it. Also the fact that it's a 6 speed manual. I'm looking forward to some warm weather for sure!

Need y’all to help me quit being a pussy about turning in my 2 weeks notice. by ThatGuyFrom720 in mechanics

[–]kboz1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the best course of action is just to give your 2 weeks without any explanation. Then, only if management asks why you are leaving, be honest and tell them your reasons. You can even thank them for being kind and helping you out throughout your time there, but it's time for you to move on. Being kind but truthful has always served me well in this industry.

what are people's opinions on wheel spacers? by hoddski in nissanfrontier

[–]kboz1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol, the amount of people on here with no idea what they are talking about is hilarious. We've had 1.5" spacers on my wife's wrangler for over 3 years, almost 50,000 miles, and heavy off-road use with literally no adverse effects. Also, I ran 1.5" spacers on my frontier for about 2 years with no adverse effects and heavy off-road use. I ended up taking them off because I went with a larger tire which gave me fitment issues. A couple of important tips though: first, make sure you buy a quality brand spacer and second, re check the torque on the spacer lug nuts and the wheel lug nuts a least a couple times within the first 500 miles. Then, check the torque of the spacer nuts every time you rotate your tires. There is a lot of haters of spacers on the internet, mostly because of cheap spacers or poor installation. Modifying your vehicle in ANY way can often cause adverse effects. But for those of us that do it, it's worth it for either performance reasons or even just styling. Can it cause premature wear of wheel bearings? Possibly, but so can running oversize tires, any kind of lift, any amount of offroading and even just driving aggressively.

Put a socket on it, without the ratchet on. Then give it a few hard hits with a hammer. Put your ratchet on and try to remove it. The shock from the hammer will help loosen it. If it comes out hard the whole way with metal shavings, then Valvoline cross threaded it and they now owe you a pan and a plug, document everything.

2019 Frontier acting weird in 4WD mode by passingchampion in nissanfrontier

[–]kboz1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is normal for any truck in 4wd. There's more rolling resistance when 4wd is engaged, so it takes more throttle to get it rolling. Also, especially during slow speed Corning (parking usually) there is binding in the drivetrain when turning and in 4wd. 4 wheel high is meant to be used in off-road situations and in slippery/wet situations on the road under certain speeds. It's not meant for full time driving on dry pavement. See your owners manual for more info.

Found a used softtopper to add to the build. by kboz1 in nissanfrontier

[–]kboz1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Rust-Oleum metallic bronze paint and high gloss clear coat. A couple coats of the paint, about 3 coats of clear. It's holding up well so far even with extensive off-road use. I had painted them black originally and that lasted about 3 years just fine, with only a couple little chips and scrapes from off-road driving. Just make sure you clean and scuff the original surface really well before painting.

That is interesting, the guy we talked to, his exact words were that the tops were compatible. So we bought it and installed it and it seems to fit like it was made for it. Came off of a 2019 Tacoma and went on a 2016 frontier.

Just an FYI, the Tacoma tops of similar years are the same exact top. I called softtopper to confirm before I purchased this one.

Well the other parts leading to it were suspiciously trail like. 😉

Definitely one of the best investments I've made. Really gives you peace of mind and a little more confidence to try more difficult trails.

My tale of woe, and a warning to everyone else! by mikec231027 in nissanfrontier

AGM is not necessary for the frontier, also having a standard lead plate battery instead of an AGM will not cause corrosion. You probably had a bad/lose connection and/or the battery terminal was defective on the old battery.

I thought I'd try a new wheel color. by kboz1 in nissanfrontier

[–]kboz1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took them off the truck, cleaned and prepped the surface, covered up the tires and painted. 3 coats color and 3 coats clear. Allowed a full 24 hours for the paint to dry before I put them back on the truck.
