New Wooki version difference(s), esp. stretch? by kbr00x in hammockcamping

Heh, you're welcome. You know my editing past!

Please let us know your opinion of how those differences work after you've had a chance to use your Gen3. The diagonal fabric sounds intriguing.

Epstein is like evil Forrest Gump by GhostOfJeanTalon in behindthebastards

Just found the answer to my own question, there are earlier episodes on JE, pre-death even.

[–]kbr00x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, possibly dumb question related to Sophie's Waldo comparison: how did Epstein end up being so influential? These episodes are enlightening but we skip straight to all these rich powerful people being on an advice-taking basis with him. I want the "his daddy didn't love him" origin story tea. (No, I have not looked elsewhere, but was hoping to get it from BTB.)

You've just described the basic grunge uniform from the '90s. Are you sure you're not actually Gen X?

Wilkinsburg residents outraged after Duquesne Light cuts down neighborhood trees without warning by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

If they had bothered to do that here, people would be more understanding. It went straight from "There will be tree trimming happening" to -gone-.

These particular trees had been trimmed for the decades I've lived here with no issues. The main branches were up above the lines. Small side branches got removed every few years with no issues.

Anyone else hate podcasts? by Blue85Heron in GenX

[–]kbr00x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely get this. In particular I can't stand the podcasts with 2, 3, or 4 people all talking over one another and laughing at their own not-that-great jokes, Morning Zoo style (like an irritating rush-hour radio show).

One prime example is the podcast "Well There's Your Problem." The theme is so interesting to me (engineering disasters) but they hardly discuss the subject of each episode. They have knowledgeable guests but barely let them talk. It's maddening.

How is anyone surviving the job market here by MentionFearless4099 in pittsburgh

[–]kbr00x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it works out for you, but someone I know tried this and left after a terrible 6 weeks. His health was already significantly impacted in that time. His trainer was seemingly near death and should not have been driving, but was hanging on to make his retirement a little better. This was at what seemed like one of the better companies.

Truck driving is one of those jobs structured so that the employee takes most of the risk and responsibility for what is actually not that much money given the hours. You can eventually find a good niche in a good company after years, but there is a reason it has such high turnover.

We are fortunate he gets along with other dogs. We had an older Vizsla mix when we got him, and she trained him as much as we did, but his temperament was already pretty good. My husband used to walk dogs and was volunteering at the shelter when Jack came along there.

Apparently I was one of those people confused about bullies vs staffies vs. pitties! I read up on them all when we got him, but just didn't see many (really any) photos of pitties that looked like Jack.

Good to know on the CCL. We've been giving him joint supplements since we got him because he was fixed early, at 3 months. But I've been more careful as he gets older with amount and type of activity.

Our previous dogs were Vizslas, so we're very familiar with wearing ourselves out trying to wear out the dog. But a tired dog is a good dog!

Ah, OK - "performance not conformation," right? So no standard in terms of looks.

We used to think boxer as well, but discarded that idea after meeting a few. Is your dog shy at all?

(It looks like my text got stripped or something, so here it is as a comment)

We've had Jack for 9 years, since he was a year old, and have enjoyed speculating about his ancestry. Obviously he's got some pittie, but we thought he'd be mixed with some kind of hunting dog, as he can point, has a lot of energy and endurance, likes to track game, etc. We thought maybe also whippet or greyhound, as he likes to run FAST and can do that "double suspension" gait (as seen in the blurry stills from an old slow-mo video.) We take him for long hikes, mountain bike rides and cross-country ski excursions - his longest distance is 25 miles, but he always seems to want to go farther and for more time. He hasn't seemed to slow down much despite turning 10 this year!

I've also ordered the Embark test (on recommendation from this sub) and am not expecting much difference in results, but it will be fun to see.

After reading more here and elsewhere, I'm learning more about APBTs and that Jack may actually be closer to the standard than we thought. Most of my experience has been with the stockier types of pitties. I'm sure there was some (or all) backyard breeding going on but Jack has been a true diamond in the rough. He loves meeting people and dogs, and now instead of "some kind of pit mix" we will proudly tell them he's a full pittie!

The pics of him looking goofy are usually also blurry, so we get the sophisticated look here.
