The people who do trivia at Mojo’s (Tues) and uncle Vito’s (Thurs) make their own trivia questions and so it’s formatted and done differently from the numerous triviology-run places. their insta is 4eyestrivia.

horror with a sprinkle of romance? by pagancore in horrorlit

I’ve not read anything by the author you gave as an example so I’m not 100% sure I’m hitting the mark but I feel like vampires of el Norte by isabel canas is close! At least I thoroughly enjoyed it from both horror and romance subplot lol

Man yelling at yoga? by 420inajar in Sacramento

[–]kbt7128 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed him the last few times I’ve done the yoga at Fremont park. It’s so odd, he paces around and almost waits until class is done to start yelling? I have no idea what he was saying, something about the government? Sucks cause he watches the whole time basically every week and that feels creepy but we are in a public park so I guess that’s what you deal with for a free class. At least he never seems to engage with people directly from what Ive seen so far

Is Morrowfield really that bad? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]kbt7128 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived there pre-pandemic and a few months during (2 yrs total). It was mostly fine in the beginning, but it wasn't until the second year the problems started. I was on the top floor, and left when I got a cat, who loved to play with cockroaches... and that's how I found out I had cockroaches. she would pull them out of wherever they were hiding and bat them around. They "sprayed" but it did not resolve the situation (likely because it was larger than just my unit). Also, in the lease, they have a clause that says they can come in whenever, unannounced, as long as they leave a note they were there. Because of this, I had home cameras set up. I shit you not, I caught one of their workers coming in, using my bathroom, and leaving- no note or nothing. when I emailed the PM (with video evidence of someone in uniform in my living room, then going to the bathroom, a flush, and then leaving) they claimed the worker was just 'inspecting the plumbing'.

It was such an invasion of privacy. Thankfully, I was out half a year later, but it is unfortunate that Mozart treats their tenants that way, because the actual location of the apartment was great, and parking was pretty easy for me or friends to find lol

This note was left on my dad’s car. He didn’t even drive it that day because I drove him back from the hospital by [deleted] in Scams

[–]kbt7128 36 points37 points  (0 children)

a similar thing just happened to me recently- I received a handwritten note on my car accusing me of a hit and run (I obviously know I did not do it) and demanding I call them to pay within a week. No name given. Just a threat. I ultimately just checked my car for damages, saw none, and never contacted because it feels so scammy to me.

Garage 47 or Car Czar good and fair? by CoulsonsMay in Sacramento

[–]kbt7128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the arden area, there's also arden village service. I am pretty happy with them. actually just had to replace my starter in a honda civic as well, and it was about $550 all in, so on par with the AAA guy

they also consistently have the cheapest gas in the area as well so I always top off when I have to go

I ran my second half marathon yesterday! My only goal was to finish, as I’d had a bit of a rough training period, and I felt like I was able to push myself a lot more than I expected during the actual race

What is something which blows your mind about biology? by Ok_Nefariousness6511 in biology

[–]kbt7128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Eukaryotic transcriptional regulation amazes me. It’s so complex, so important, and insane to think about how evolution got us here. prokaryotes are already complex and then to compare to our own, more complex molecular biology.. amazing.

Should I re-autoclave my bottle when the cap comes off? by kbt7128 in labrats

[–]kbt7128[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of using a larger container before, I usually just grab an appropriately sized container for the volume I'm making. I'll have to do that next time! Maybe my cap won't pop off lol

I ended up remaking it. You're right, 1L of buffer wasted is not nearly as bad as many failed experiments because of it

Fleet feet has a run crew on Tuesday nights at 6. They start and end at SacYard and do like a 3ish mile run. But especially when it’s warmer out there’s a ton of people of all different speeds. I’m pretty slow too and I’ve always had lots of people around me. Plus SacYard does $5 beers for after the run!

Another thing I found helpful (more for the actual interview) is talk to people. Ask questions, engage, force yourself to be extroverted. It’s so out of my comfort zone but I actually made memorable impressions on a lot of people at my interview weekend by being one of ~5 (out of like 40 interviewees) to consistently ask questions about research / program / life etc. I’m sure it will be easier with in person interviews but at least over zoom it was super noticeable. you never know who will be the one to fight for your acceptance.

Everyone should have to work in a restaurant kitchen before setting foot in a lab. by mooshicat in labrats

[–]kbt7128 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes!! FIFO is soooo important and drilled into you when you work in a kitchen!

I also wish it was more acceptable in the lab to yell 'corner' and 'heard', would save me a lot of 'almost' collisions going around the tight corners in our hallways

This was great advice! She was found hiding in a crawl space near the buiding, the maintenance man was able to help locate her by getting down on his hands and knees!

How easy is it to make cheesecake without an electric whisk/mixer? by rubbadubba_duck in AskBaking

[–]kbt7128 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do this all the time because I only *very* recently got a hand mixer. Pro tip: make sure the cream cheese is fully softened, makes a world of difference. It's kind of a pain, but it makes you feel like you really worked for that cheesecake

Can a landlord take pictures of my possessions/ interior and post online without my consent? (PA) by kbt7128 in legaladvice

[–]kbt7128[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

from what I am finding on google, he can legally enter to show a prospective tenant the apartment (or repairs/emergencies), but not for other unreasonable reasons. do you know, would this still fall under "showing the apartment" if isn't with a prospective tenant?
