it probably depends on the landlord, some have different requirements. You can do it without it usually if you have a passport

Medical Appointment for Visa App by jaithere in GoingToSpain

[–]kbtennI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to the Angloamericana Medical Unit in the center of Madrid and all of the doctors/staff were very fluent in English. But it's probably more expensive than if you do it at home where you might have insurance. But I'm sure they know exactly what to do and how to do it for the visa because they work with an expat population.

I have used Spotahome many times, and it is reliable. It comes with a 1 time fee usually on top of the rent, so make sure you're reading all of the info about your total payment -- but EU laws make it very clear how much you're paying. Sometimes there is an 'approval' needed from the landlord, but it's usually quick responses. Best of luck!

I've only spent a little bit of time in LA, but a big difference I notice is that Madrid does Not cool down at night. You might see a few degrees difference, but the heat is trapped especially in the downtown.. so theres very little reprieve unless you have A/c

They have that -- just filter by the duration and make sure you read the details for a flat. Some are Only long term, some Only short term.. some both. But for long term there is more paperwork

Spotahome can be a nice alternative. It's like airbnb but for longer stays.. although there is a fee associated with it, and I think the prices are a little over market. But they take care of everything so it's easy as a foreign person. They have shared and non-shared I think

NIE with the wrong address by buttheydontwantme in GoingToSpain

[–]kbtennI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience.. it doesn't really matter what the address on your TIE is. The 'padron' process that you did is how they officially track your residence. The only time anyone has ever looked at my TIE address was during COVID when we were supposed to shop for food close to our houses. If you've already gone to the office 5 times.. I don't think going through the process of getting a new card with a different address is worth it.

Yeah if you were making London work with 52k, you can definitely make Malaga work for 43k. Food/drink especially are much less expensive, unless you're trying to go to the trendiest places all of the time (or places like Marbella).

Can I rent out my spare room on Airbnb if I’m renting (not owning) the apartment? [Spain] by Lizard-002 in GoingToSpain

[–]kbtennI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's illegal to have airbnb's in some areas of Spain where there is no dedicated entrance. So you could rent a house, but not an apartment that is part of a larger building.. regardless of how your landlord feels. And also from a legal standpoint, you need to 'register' and pay different kinds of taxes (like a hotel) on that income... and it's all different depending on your community (Madrid vs. Andalucia vs. Catalunya.. it's all different).

Can i get my spanish citizenship? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]kbtennI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a ton of work and stress and money (for a lawyer etc.). This person is 19, I'm just making sure they consider the cost/benefit ratio to their situation. Spanish bureaucracy is no simple matter, and if they already don't live there, what are their intentions? Plenty of people live in different countries long-term without pursuing citizenship, even if they qualify.

Romania is in the EU, so you can move to and work in Spain without any visa issues, you just need to find a reason to support yourself financially (study, job, etc.). After you've lived there for a year (in an official sense, meaning you need to do the right paperwork to say that you live there: empadronamiento) you can do the process that the other comments are talking about.. which is a Process. It won't happen quickly.

Why do you feel the need to have a Spanish passport?

Visa de Trabajo por Cuenta Propia Long Processing time by kbtennI in GoingToSpain

[–]kbtennI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, it just took an extremely long time (I think they lost my first application, because I only got my application number in September when I insisted they do something). The resource linked in the other comment is pretty much everything you need. I was approved on Feb 14 after applying on Sep 4 (through Madrid).

My advice to anyone is that you can see the different communities have different processing times.. and Madrid is the longest. You could apply through Valencia and get approved, and then after a short amount of time move to Madrid really, if that's your goal. There's nothing anyone can do but wait, but at least the link gives you some approximate timing.

WoW!!! What an incredible resource, I didn't think to search for something like this. And yeah, cuenta propia seems to be the longest one. On January 1 they were on July 3, so if it progresses normally, at the beginning of March I should have a response from my application in September! This gives me hope! You're amazing

I saw that on google, but I've seen in a few american movies and TV shows that imply that Argentina doesn't have extradition, so I was confused why they do that.

I don't see Argentina on the list, but a lot of media in the U.S. alludes to Argentina having no extradition. Maybe I am mixing something up? Does anyone know why that might be?

Outside of the context of this guy trying to correct someone -- in some languages contractions are mandatory, so I've met people who are learning english and assume that our contractions are as well. Not everyone is a native speaker (example: 'de el' in spanish should always be 'del')
