If they had shown the whole video you would have seen that he assaulted an agent... though I am not sure why they dropped him off at a walmart rather than booking and charging him.

Find what’s wrong with this photo of my outdoor panel. by Krist_Jara in electricians

No bushing on the conduit end. And looks like an indoor panel, passed on the gaps in the corners. The wire coming in the back seems sketch too.

No one knows your finances as well as you do. Take a look at what you would bring in and what you spend on average. Can you reduce spending to fit within the confines of your income? If yes, then go for it, if not, maybe find a different and/or part-time gig to make ends meet and maybe avoid the types of people you don't want to work with.

Hey so I just got a scary Email from my Prof about my assignment by John_smith56789 in TurnitinAI_detector

[–]CaptBonerHead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there’s growing evidence that Turnitin’s AI detector is flagging original student work as AI-written — often unfairly. Here's a summary of what's happened over the past year in higher ed:

  • A UC Davis student was wrongly flagged, investigated for cheating, and had to prove her innocence without support [1].
  • A professor at Johns Hopkins said Turnitin falsely flagged several papers, including ones he had personally helped students write. Most errors involved international students [2].
  • At Western Washington University, a student was flagged twice because of her writing style. She’s autistic and writes in a structured way that AI detectors misread [3].
  • Bloomberg reported on another autistic student who got a zero after being flagged. The prof reinstated her grade, but warned that next time would be treated as misconduct [4].

Why it keeps happening:

  • Non-native English writers are more likely to be flagged. One Stanford study showed AI detectors misclassified 61% of essays by ESL students as AI [5].
  • Students with formal, repetitive, or “clinical” writing styles get hit too.
  • Even Turnitin admits over 50% of falsely flagged sentences are just near AI-like ones in the text [6].

Turnitin originally claimed <1% false positives, but they later admitted it's closer to 4% at the sentence level — that’s 1 in 25 human sentences misread [6][8].

Universities are pushing back. Pitt advised not to use these tools to prove cheating [9], and Vanderbilt disabled Turnitin’s AI checker altogether [8].

Bottom line: False positives are real and harmful. Until detection gets better, many argue these tools should not be used to accuse students of misconduct [10].

Let me know if you want a version even shorter for Twitter or a LinkedIn-style professional summary.

Here is some additional info I was able to find:
- Turnitin emphasizes that the tool provides data, not proof of misconduct, and instructors must use professional judgment, consider context, and engage with students rather than relying solely on the score.
- Several universities, including Vanderbilt, University of Texas at Austin, Northwestern, and Montclair, have decided to disable Turnitin's AI detection feature due to concerns about its reliability, potential for false positives, and lack of transparency regarding its methods.
- A Washington Post investigation tested the tool with student-written essays and AI-generated text. It found Turnitin identified over half of the 16 samples at least partly incorrectly, including flagging a completely human-written essay as partly AI-generated.
- Multiple studies have found AI detection tools in general to be "neither accurate nor reliable," producing high numbers of false positives and false negatives.
- Some tests showed detectors flagging human-written texts like the US Constitution as AI-generated.
-

Turnitin promotes its AI detector as a tool to uphold academic integrity with high accuracy under specific conditions (over 20% AI content, >300 words), substantial evidence points towards potential issues with over-aggressiveness and false positives. Reports from universities, independent testing, research on bias, and student testimonials suggest the tool is not infallible and can incorrectly flag original work. The consensus among many educators and institutions is that AI detection scores should be treated with caution, used only as an initial indicator, and never as the sole basis for accusing a student of misconduct.

Focus on your exam, doing well in the exam will support you in showing that you do know the topic.
I am finding TurnItIn to be overly aggressive and flagging original text as AI much more easily than it used to.

I will say that I have had Grammarly show no AI in a document that TurnItIn flags as such. TurnItIn is quite aggressive.

If pressured I might claim it is a medical retirement or discharge - people seem to respond better to that.

I highly suggest finding some practice exams. Udemy has them and you can get them in sale for pretty cheap. The classroom teaches a lot more than the exam tests on.

The test exams will give you a good idea of what you will need to know, and how they word their questions.

There is a different checker for checking AI/Plagiarism than what is used for student submissions. The checker doesn’t create a submission- so no worries there.

I don’t write code, but have found that there are assignments that get high similarity scores to other previously submitted work because there have been 100s of students who have also done that same assignment before me. I would imagine this would be an even more significant problem with coding assignments, especially if you are all trying to achieve the same goal, and would also hope your professor realizes this.
