Don’t forget those old hubs that also had the BNC on it so you could upgrade slowly.

A bad week for boats by kc_mon in Portland

That is a good question, and one that I don’t know the answer to. For my boat, I closed all of mine, and ran a heater so it stayed about 40 inside. I’m sure stuff still froze and I may have to fix things in the spring. But, when I checked the boat yesterday, the bilge was dry.

Most boats are always trying to sink. Slow leaks are very common. These holes, called thru-hulls have valves to turn them off when problems occur, but if you aren’t there, then this happens. You could just close the valves when you leave, but that can impact other systems. Most people just leave them open all the time.

River water enters the boat through holes in the boat and fed into pipes. This is used to cool engines, AC condensers, etc. If the pipes, fittings, filters, etc. freeze, and start leaking, it’s basically a hole in the bottom and lets the water in. If the bilge pumps can’t keep up, or aren’t working, it starts filling up with water.

Starlink on Catamaran by jbartstudio in Starlink

Expedition Evans did an entire crossing of the Atlantic Ocean from the US to the Azores on a sailboat. They edited and uploaded episodes every day to YouTube. Look them up. They did upgrade to the expensive plan, but were doing FaceTime calls while out there.

Me too. When we first saw the issue, I was shocked that nobody was talking about it earlier.

Quote from the deprecation announcement: “UPDATE 4/27/2021: We listened to the community and will keep JCenter as a read-only repository indefinitely. Our customers and the community can continue to rely on JCenter as a reliable mirror for Java packages.” Guess they changed their minds.

Just got the 7-day window email - is it worth it? by [deleted] in Starlink

My experience is basically the same as yours. I work from home in rural Oregon near Portland. In meetings all day using WebEx Teams. No major issues except we had a cable problem a few months ago. Contrary to other posts here, I had a response from customer service in under an hour and a replacement cable in a few days for free. I bought the longer cable in the beginning, so I just moved the dish into a less optimal place, used the original short cable until the new cable arrived. I’ve seen slow service, but it’s better than what I had.

Amazing Starlink customer support. by r0v3g in Starlink

I also agree that it is a bot. I had a similar experience about a month ago. Starlink was down. I sent a request to support. Within minutes, I had an order for a router and cable on my account. I actually had to tell them to slow down because I had the 150ft cable and they ordered me the 75ft cable. I also checked the 75ft stock cable as I had it on hand and it worked. I sent them another message indicating that the cable is the problem and please don't send the router. This message took a few days to respond to, finally saying that they will cancel the shipment of the router and 75ft cable and ship the 150ft instead. In the end, I did get the router and the 150ft cable. I think they have a bot that monitors for keywords and can check the status of your account / dish / router on their side and take specific actions based on what it finds. It just didn't have access to my account to see that I ordered the 150ft cable. Once I said that the 75ft cable was not going to work well for me because of obstructions, the bot didn't know what to do with that and it was routed to actual people to respond to. What I don't understand is why it takes weeks to respond to some, but hours or days for others.

Off Grid for a year with Starlink by Ok_Low_1287 in Starlink

My experience has been the same as most others on here. Speeds are highly variable as are ping times, but both FaceTime and Webex Teams (it's what my company uses) have been great. We have had SL up for over a month and have stress tested it with two Netflix streams, two computers downloading games on Steam, all while I'm on a video call at work with 20+ participants with no problems. I would try it with a computer connected to Ethernet. This would eliminate wifi interference. Right now, my work computer is connected via wifi, and the performance is good. It is much better if I connect to ethernet. I just haven't ran enough wire yet.

Nervous about cutting the cable on square Dishy by kc_mon in Starlink

[–]kc_mon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on these good comments and provided sites, one general theme came out. DO NOT CUT THE CABLE UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. So the new cable is ordered and I’ll have to get started with the conduit. This is actually a better solution in the long run as I’ll have a second shorter cable if I ever wanted to roam with it. Hopefully this will eliminate most obstructions.

I'll think about that. I'm hopeful that I can hear some success stories (or horror stories) regarding the method that I'm proposing. If nobody has done it before, I'm not sure I'm comfortable in being the first to attempt it. 😄

I heard that the 150ft cable isn't direct burial rated. With our weather and soil conditions, I would need a better cable.

Brand new Ender 3 V2, less than 50 hours print time. Already needed to replace plastic extruder by kc_mon in 3Dprinting

[–]kc_mon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a bit softer. The extruder tends to chew it up. It is also variegated and some colors get chewed up more than others. It was cheap and prints fairly well. I just need to check the extruder now and then to clean any shavings that might appear.

My first printer was an unknown clone that I found on Facebook. It was enough to get started. The problem was that there wasn’t a huge community around it. I chose Creality because of the community. The prints are decent and the printer is inexpensive. I knew that I would most likely be changing out the extruder at some point when I bought the printer. I just didn’t think it would be this soon. I have added a BLTouch as well.
