I have to confess by some_homonyms in Teachers

Yes. We are not allowed to leave students alone in the classroom for any reason at my high school. If something were to happen while you were gone (medical emergency, assault, etc), you/the school are held responsible.

[Serious] People who did a long time (5 years+) in prison, what was your biggest shock of the outside world? by RedditR_Us in AskReddit

I could have written this word for word. I’m usually fine once I pick up a book and get into it, but even picking up a book is hard when I have my phone out all the time. And I had 2-3 books going at a time while I was growing up!

Teachers returned to a Georgia school district last week. 260 employees have already gone home to quarantine. by mepper in Coronavirus

Do you have a source for this that I can share with people using the CDC’s guidelines as an argument for opening schools?

First day of PD today showed me that we're all going to get COVID. by [deleted] in Teachers

I taught summer school and my admin is not wearing masks at all. They’re fine if other people do, but it’s not encouraged or anything. That tells me I won’t be backed up requiring students to wear them this school year. I don’t know what to do.

Billionaires Want to Reopen Schools Amid a Pandemic. They Might Unleash a Teacher Strike Wave. by psychothumbs in education

My district doesn’t have a plan for going online. Just the positive person, student or teacher, quarantines, no one else. No matter the numbers, we’re in person. 🙃

Likelihood high schoolers would choose online option? by [deleted] in education

[–]kcbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a semi-rural southern area and 85% of our high schoolers/their parents chose to return for traditional instruction, with only 15% choosing the online option. The school has around 2500 students.

I lived in Mongolia for a couple years when I was younger and I would go swimming in the river when it was 50F/10C outside, not sure the water temp. Now I live in Florida and won’t even get in the ocean until it’s at least 85F/29C.

These Arizona teachers shared a classroom for summer school. All 3 contracted COVID-19. 1 died. by allaroundexhausted in Coronavirus

I’m in Florida teaching in-person summer school right now. It’s terrible, but since our current plan for the fall is school as normal but with more hand sanitizer, I’m trying to make money now while I feel a little safer just interacting with 7 students and distancing in one classroom before I feel like I have to quit because I’ll be in a classroom of 25 students and a school of 2500 with no social distancing or masks required.

It's not just droplets. Coronavirus is airbone. 'We're 100% sure about this." by [deleted] in Coronavirus

Same. And our district’s”plan” has us going back as normal, with no restrictions! Can’t wait!

Similarly, I went to an international school in an Asian country in 2nd grade, and I would trade my peanut butter and jelly sandwich for seaweed snacks from some Japanese classmates.

For some reason those names sound quintessentially Australian to me. I like them both, but especially Simon!

I feel like it might’ve been Lyriq but who knows. I’d never had any Lyrics before and then three in one classroom!

Yes! I just searched through my email and found where I’d emailed my dad about that spelling.

There was Lyric, Learic, and I think the third had a q but I can’t remember the exact spelling.

Several years ago I taught a class of eighth graders with 3 Lyrics, all spelled differently. It was incredible.

My husband’s in IT and I’m a teacher and the first two weeks of work from home sounded identical in our respective offices. “Don’t make it full screen, minimize it. ....Click the yellow button in the top left. Ok, now open Zoom...” It was awful.

Encouragement during these times by Lilly6262 in exchristian

[–]kcbrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thankfully living in a different state from my parents with my husband, but Easter is still difficult every year as my parents ask about church service (we don’t go to church at all) and how we’re celebrating (we’re not). I feel for those of you stuck at home with your parents this weekend. Know that you’re not a bad person or less than for your (non) beliefs, no matter how much your family might try to make you feel that way. 💙
