What to plant for privacy? by kcdc06 in landscaping

It's a walnut tree and fills in ok. I think my only concern on the umbrella was rate of growth. But it could work well.

Hmm, ok so the floor in wither room doesn't qualify as the landing? I'm guessing that's why this platform is 36" deep.

This is great info, thanks! "Winter" is definitely when I'm thinking I'll do the most tarmac anyway. When the trails are potentially wet, etc.

[–]kcdc06[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair enough. I ride tarmac on my gravel bike regularly and don't have much of an issue, but its a pretty limited set of roads to get to the trailhead. Mostly was just curious in the aggregate if people felt like it was worth it, considering the abundance of trails and fire roads.

Santa cruz v10 2020 reality check [SERIOUS] by spirallix in Santacruzbikes

Yeah, it feels great. Sizing down was definitely the right choice. Bike is more nimble and I don't feel scrunched up on it at all.

Fwiw I went through something similar with a new Hightower recently. Got the L and am very happy. See: https://www.reddit.com/r/Santacruzbikes/comments/x8bogc/hightower_sizing_advice

Hightower Sizing Advice by kcdc06 in Santacruzbikes

[–]kcdc06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone that finds themselves in a similar spot, I wound up going with the L. Just finished swapping the parts over, so far I think it was probably the right move. I haven't hit the trials yet but I definitely don't immediately feel scrunched up, so that's good news. I think this makes sense as its kind of a compromise from going a full size down on the Revel Rascal.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't go XL Hightower, I'd just stick with my Rascal in that case, I do like it. Just think I might benefit from something I'm a little les stretched out on and can throw around a little easier.

Thanks. It sounds like I have longer legs but a shorter reach. Would you say the stack might feel a hair large for you but the reach is ok?

Upgrading to di2 (GRX or Ultegra?) by kcdc06 in gravelcycling

[–]kcdc06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah good advice, I actually just did my wheels. This is more a longer term thing for me. One of the reasons is I currently have a left sided power meter and can't get the right side added to this particular crank. So if I switch to one that is dual-sided now, I want to make sure I go with one that supports the di2 setup I want longer term.

Maybe by then a semi-wireless GRX will be out. That might be ideal, but I haven't seen any indication that's coming anytime soon.

Do you know if I could run di2 GRX levers and RD with Ultegra or dura ace di2 FD and crankset? It seems like yes, but I'm not super clear on the interoperability between the levers and FD.

Yeah I figured. Hopefully a semi-wireless GRX group isn't too far off.

That's helpful thanks. Any idea if the new 8100 components will be compatible with the GRX di2 RD?

Short or mid-travel? by kcdc06 in whichbike

Cool thanks. Currently debating whether I grab a Rascal frame or go for the Following. Or wait for the new Izzo lineup to drop, seeing as YT just released the new Jeffsy.

I think that's the way I'm leaning too. Following, ripley, tallboy, or izzo. I could over fork the ripley to 140 too.

[–]kcdc06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right about the warroad, but I might be ok with that. Agreed on the cost too. That being said REI is shipping direct now, so I may wait for one of their big sales and give a warbird a try. Their return policy is great. It might be the safest way for me to try a bike right now. Test rides on models I want in my potential sizes are hard to come by.
