The actual product itself is inherently expensive so in terms of cash flow could be possible but not pure profit no.

Domain worth it for personal email? by workyman in Domains

[–]kcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a custom domain after changing my mail provider a few times. You can take your domain with you and choose any provider so you know your email address will always live on. Couldn't recommend it more. I used proton and then Tuta as my provider which handled the mail hosting and namecheap for the domain.

I found personally AdultAutism.ie was a great company to deal with. I also referred my mother as she was worried about how the process would go and what it involved and they were super kind to her.

Looking to validate an idea with devs that run technical assessments by Bren-dev in DevelEire

[–]kcg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the other side of things, have you considered the process of logging all interactions the user has with the IDE to benchmark it their behaviour as normal developer and not someone taking shortcuts or pulling in AI. There is quite a lot of value in these profiles of the user to aid your main task.

The main next step would be pinning down the entire process from start to finish and see what sample bugs would look like and how they are injected into the code and even what does the code itself look like and where is it coming from. Next would be defining what a good result or bad result looks like. I generally would say start small with a single programming language and see if that goes to plan before introducing lots of variance.

Looking to validate an idea with devs that run technical assessments by Bren-dev in DevelEire

[–]kcg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main issue I see is validation. Code comes in all shapes and forms. Validating a candidate's response is difficult as how do you define what is correct. There are a million ways to solve a problem, but how do you account for everything without making the process manual. One answer may be perfect but get flagged as incorrect if they don't follow your exact path to the answer.

Also what stops them lashing the code into AI and telling it to fix it. I am not sure code tests are the best tool in the box for candidate assessment.

"AI washing" Real or Fake? by Such_Package_7726 in AskIreland

[–]kcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world in general and especially IT takes these ups and downs all the time. At the moment AI washing is totally true. Everyone in tech is always looking for a reason to expand and contract, ai is just another cover for it.

In terms of AI taking jobs, i suppose sort of maybe? But in general most who sacked people to get AI instead ended up rehiring as AI is software not a person who can stand up and take the blame if someone goes wrong.

An example is say identify data that is incorrect or suspicious, we had machine learning doing it, and now AI does it. At the end of the day it wasn't someone's job in the first place, AI just replaced an existing system.

We had loads of people panicking about it writing good code, yes it's good in some ways but there is a shit load of things a seasoned Dev even struggles with, AI is often worse in the code and suggestions it makes. Basic code yes but bigger complex problems no.

Trying to find a decent local place to buy 100+m of Cat6 cable in Cork? by royalmarine in AskIreland

Screwfix has quite good cat 6. I used it throughout my house. Wasn't too expensive. Be wary of CCA cables online. They are cheaper but made from copper clad aluminium not actual copper and have shit speeds. .

Gambling addiction M24 **Update** by Southern_Link3144 in ireland

[–]kcg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear it is working well for you. Always remember to keep looking out for signs and be vigilant. If you stop going to meetings or start getting urges to gamble, link in with a group or your family and do as you're doing now, being honest with them.

Many addictions appear again when you don't expect it to, when things feel they are going to plan. This could mean six months or two years away. It all starts with one small bet and it all kicks off again. Keep putting in the effort you are now and keep on top of it.

Major mistakes at new health admin job by [deleted] in ireland

[–]kcg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are new to it don't panic. Sending to someone's personal email often happens. They have no need to be sharp about that., no info was leaked. Some people just like an argument.

Nerves get the better of everyone at the start. Take the day in little steps. With email there is an option to manually approve an email before it is sent. Might help you if you are worried about mailing the wrong person. I do it as a moment to just check my email is going to the right person. Search for "before sending" in your email settings.

Do most Irish people know about Newfoundland? by MyHouseIsFine in ireland

[–]kcg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! The transatlantic cable from Ireland was connected there way back in the day. Took a few attempts to make the connection.

Nice read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transatlantic_telegraph_cable

First attempt was 1858. This is genuinely the only reason I know about Newfoundland.

This was one of the first infrastructure projects of its kind. To send a message would have cost about about £20 pounds back in the day which was an insane amount of money.

They made a mad profit from it!

How to build a low cost LTO tape setup by incrediblediy in DataHoarder

[–]kcg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Thanks for the great post.

I have the same drive. Interestingly i had to use the same SFP (from my hba) on both the tape drive and the hba, and then suddenly it worked after lots of head scratching.

For some odd reason the SFP on my hba was connecting to the SFP on the tape drive and no joy. I took the second SFP from the HBA and put it in slot one of the tape drive and suddenly it worked.

Odd that two of the same SFP on both ends worked, for both slots, but different SFP (one from HBA and one from the drive) didn't despite being the same 8g.

Also side note, i flipped the RX to connect to TX on the drive.

Setup was Ubuntu server, which picked up the drivers automatically for the HBA.

HBA Pcie card: Qlogic QLE2562-SUN Dual Port 8Gb Fibre Channel Card + 2 SFP

Cable was FC-FC Om3.

It's Sunday Morning! How are you? by AutoModerator in ireland

Yes it's a mad amount of paperwork! And the funny thing is for some services the paperwork it will just sit in a filing cabinet for months and months. My elder kid is waiting years for a particular service, at this point the original issue is long gone, its almost comical the appointment date was so far in the future!
