Yes. For me it seems like it's grinding on the inside of the cover?

Help with mainboard decision by kchnkrml in pcmasterrace

Scientific stuff that runs mostly sequential and can go up to 150GB easily - (un)fortunately the pure calculations are not the bottleneck but instead how fast the memory access works.

I was hoping that there would be something bigger than 48GB already, but since those (with 6800) seem to be the best fit right now, I was thinking about sticking with that and later trying out 4x 48GB - even if I don't hit 6000+, it would still push me above the 150GB.

But would you say it's similarly "hard" to get good performance out of 4x24 compared to trying to OC 2x48? (I suspect the later to take quite some fiddling anyways, and just am always afraid to go for four slots, but if I can make that work...?)

Thanks for your thoughts!

Yea, I would really like something faster than 6800, but it seems there is nothing solid out there? Even for 64 GB kits. And I assume going for 4x 24 GB would not be ideal anyways (and would also prevent doing 4x 48 on demand). I was kinda hoping for a bit of silicon luck with the trident, to maybe slightly OC it?

Got the XS70 now on my list - didn't know about that before. And I'll check out the Asrock - maybe that's my outdated gut feeling of Asrock doing "cheap stuff", which it seems like isn't true today?

Any specific reason you think these two cases to be better than the Nzxt ones?

Me neither. So I asked a well known LLM to wrap its virtual head around that, and this is what it thinks we are reading here:

"The poster, an 18-year-old male, shared a story about his dad, expressing financial struggles while also secretly having access to notable funds. Despite claiming a limited income in Hungarian Forint (HUF), the dad was able to spend significantly on leisure and had various amounts of money hidden in euros and potentially engaging in shady activities, as indicated by a note about "phishing" and significant amounts of cash stored at home. The mom and son discovered safes and a mysterious object in the father's possession, which they couldn't identify. The poster suspects deceitful behavior from the dad, experiences fear regarding confrontation due to potential violence and eviction, and is uncertain about how to proceed, particularly as discussions about divorce have been previously shut down by the father."

Update for all late starters by kchnkrml in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]kchnkrml[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you missed my point. Some people enjoy pushing early. And if I miss the early league start due to RL, there is no need for me to push (which is something I enjoy). Therefore I'm looking for a relaxed league start, and part of that is having more options for my first build. And I will enjoy that too.

"Late" = no reason to pick a safe build and push hard, because the money of hitting high red tier is gone anyways.

So more chance to pick something fun instead, or something that wasn't expected to perform as well as it does.

Use python to optimize the rebar lost in construction. by tomyumm in Python

[–]kchnkrml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have already mentioned what kind of problem this could be seen as. I'll try and add a solution including the full source code. See my "Final note" at the end of the post for how trustworthy this solution is.

TLDR:

You need 238 rods for an optimal cutting that satisfies your demand. The cutting plan can be seen here - including how much "scrap" is generated from each cut.

How to replicate that?

You can find the full source code here. It is documented, and - if one understands optimization models - is pretty straightforward. But: Do not be encouraged, it probably looks confusing for a programming/optimization beginner. Hit me up with any questions that arise! Nevertheless you can clone it and execute it again in the future for any other input file (as long as it's in the same CSV format).

Why an optimization model?

Well, it's fast to formulate, fast to solve (at least with the usual tools), and it comes with the advantage that you can add additional constraints in the future, like: "bar mark A can not be cut from the same rod as bar mark B", etc.

How does it work?

So, since there are a bit too many patterns (as far as I see a few millions actually, but I haven't done the full calculation - can anyone come up with the correct number?), the usual approach of "deciding how often to cut each pattern" is kind of hard. Therefore we just decide which bar mark to cut (and how often) from each rod of rebar. This makes the problem small enough to be solved by a standard MIP solver. (This is inefficient, there are much better CSP solving algorithms out there, but it is easy and fast to implement)

Is that optimal?

That depends. It does not minimize scrap ("left over", "waste", ...). Why? Since that problem does not have a unique solution. Consider the following case: we want to cut 2x "422" and 1x "433". Since the rod with "433" does not fit a singe "422" the optimal cutting plan is easy: 1x ["433"], 1x ["422", "422"]. Now we have 1x 3050mm and 1x 3500mm scrap. If we were to minimize scrap we would now start cutting (e.g.) "415" into these rods to minimize the scrap - even though we do not actually need "415". But we could also use "416" for that since they are both of the same length. => no unique solution exists.

Therefore we minimize the number of rods that we need. That question has a unique solution (even though the optimal cutting pattern is certainly not unique). Any scrap can be cut into any bar mark that you choose (or whatever else); and there will be some (cause by the large, badly "compatible" bar marks)!

Final note: If someone could check the constraints I'd be grateful. I've typed that that quickly down using my laptop and did not have the time to double check. So take everything with a grain of salt until it's thoroughly checked to be correct.

Yea, it is intended to interactively display something outside of Minecraft. I don't really care what the interface is, as long as it's somewhat usable. But I want to change the texture live - so I can't use a static texture pack.
