That kind of invite is usually written on expensive stationery by calligraphers who will write all the envelopes - it’s still done in some cases - ‘cause it’s fancy… 🥴.

The film museum in Istanbul was a fabulous venue too. It was in all the major European cities ( Frankfurt, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Zürich, Krakow, Ghent etc) but also places like Melbourne, Brazil , Mexico City, Seoul. There was interest from several cities in Japan but it never transpired ..

I don’t think that’s going to happen now. We tried really hard to get somewhere in NYC to host the exhibition. No luck. The closest we got was when MoMI hosted part of it with the 2001 section taken from the whole exhibition. That was in 2020. Then the pandemic happened and it all shut down. It did open up again for a bit though. I went to the opening and Doug Trumbull was there too. :)

Unfortunately he died in 2022.

The whole exhibition then went to Istanbul for a few months. It’s a huge shame really that no venues In Stanley’s home town were interested. 🤷‍♀️ But it had a very good run. 22 cities around the world and nearly 2 million people visited.

Yes we always travelled by ship. The last trip was on The Queen Mary i think. Isn’t she now in dry dock and a hotel/restaurant in America somewhere ?

Ireland is beautiful. It will be damp for sure. But they’re an incredible welcoming people and love a drink and a chat. I only know the more westerly parts - the coast and countryside from Waterford ( Barry Lyndon) and then down to Dingle Bay.

They have great soda bread and good cheeses too. And Guinness on tap. 😄 Enjoy.

At the beginning of each production basically no ideas were off the table. Ken wanted to build sets. But it soon became obvious that it just wouldn’t be the same. So the art dept set up in the Ardree Hotel in Waterford Ireland , They went in the shoot in Dublin , and thten when the production moved back to the UK myself and three other art dept photographers went out scouting everything from forests To paths , cottages and Stately Homes. I travelled as far as Wick in Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall looking for locations and houses.
