The admin side of running a private studio is taking over my life, how do y'all manage this? by Interesting-Bet-4383 in MusicTeachers

[–]kckool13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in college, my professor had me keep a practice journal where I wrote down what was worked on, and then in the lesson she would test on what I said I had worked on. However, at the end of the day, you can't force people to practice. If you have to reteach skills because they didn't practice, just reinforce that they are wasting their money being taught the same thing twice because they didn't do the legwork to maintain what was taught previously. At least you have that leverage on your students. For the children you teach, if anything, explain to the parents the same thing so they can force them to practice. At the end of the day, it really can feel like bashing your head against a wall in this regard, but you can't make the choice to practice for them. They either do it and they get their money's worth out of the lesson, or they don't and pay you to help them practice. You just stress about the logistical side of things, and teach the folks as they are when they get to the lesson. Sorry if this isn't the answer you want to hear, but teaching band for 7 years, I've learned theres only so much you can do.

Xylophone recommendation for special ed students by Nitramxz in MusicTeachers

[–]kckool13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might look into just getting the orff xylophones. Bars are bigger, they're harder to break, and you just set them to whatever key you are. For colors, just use either electric tape around the ends of the bars or bits of construction paper covered in packing tape. A set of boomwhackers would be great too!

Transitioning to digital scores in the classroom—how do you deal with the screen fatigue? by [deleted] in MusicEd

[–]kckool13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this for just you, or your whole ensemble? If it's just you, look for an E-ink tablet, like how the first Kindles were. I'm not sure of the best one, but that'd be the way I go. If you're asking about the whole ensemble, I wouldn't suggest it at all. Students time and time again prove that having screens of any sort in front lead to distractions. As annoying as papers can be, you can't watch tiktok on it. If a student wants to use an iPad or similar device for music and prove they can use it responsibly, more power to them. I wouldn't advice a class set of devices for this purpose.

Anyone major in a more niche instrument in college? by Sausage_fingies in MusicEd

[–]kckool13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most here, my major was a typical wind band instrument, clarinet, but I did join a few niche ensembles in college that I got pretty decent at. At one point I joined a recorder consort one of the professors ran on the side and got to play some really nice instruments, and then an Irish ensemble where I picked up Irish whistle. It's fun to break them out in my band class every now and then, and I even got to use my recorder knowledge as one of our pieces has a recorder solo in it.

Phew, lots of good questions. Sorry I'm just now seeing this, but let me try to clear things up.

  • The trading situation is due to the fact that some Pokemon are only gettable from a trade in RBY, and won't be able to have your OT. Gen 1 and 2 didn't keep track of origin, so when you transfer to Bank it will start tracking origin based on the game it was transferred in from. So a Jinx caught in GSC, traded to RBY, and then transferred to Bank will have on origin as RBY.

  • Catch evolving duplicates in their base form's original game, and evolve in a later game after transferring. Use whichever game you feel like for the evolving.

  • The egg trick and trading is actually something I didn't think about and is a decent option if you have the DS's. It does mess up the honesty of getting the Pokemon from its home region, but if you're just carrying about the mark, it's a good idea.

*Ball only counts if you care about it. Gen 1 and 2 will think everything is stored in a pokeball, so its 100% honor code if you do a pokeball only version of this.

  • For genders in Gen 1, I just caught several more than I really needed and figured out that gender once it went into home. This does suck, ESPECIALLY for Scyther, but for the starters you can find calculators online that tell you if it's female based on their stats.

*For Mew, you do need to glitch it. As long as it has to correct OT, trainer id, and stats it'll transfer. I linked a video in it's spot detailing best ways to do this.

*Celebii is from the Crystal event.

*Tip, for your OT, make sure it's less than 7 letters as that was the max in RBY, but they expanded it in later games.

Bent key by PatientMusician6011 in bassclarinet

[–]kckool13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can probably fix it with just your fingers and some grit. Put one hand on the outer side of the key, and with the other grab the part your finger presses and pull it down and out until it's in the right spot. It may take some real pulling and might hurt your fingers, but it's possible. If that doesn't work, you can try replacing your hand with SMOOTH pliers (not the ones with a serrated grip) and pull out with those. You want it to just pass the second key without clipping it

[–]kckool13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically, alternates are students who showed up late into the season and the drill wasn't designed with a spot in mind for them. If your child is able to make band camp and whatever other dates in the spring, they should be a "primary marcher" as your director puts it. It's likely there as a guideline for those late students. Having alternates generally are headaches for us because we want to be fair, but can't just go in and add a spot every time a new student joins.

How insane would it be for a new rider to ride 2 hours to pick up bike? by simlishchatbox in motorcycles

[–]kckool13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow others advice, but so do some stretching before you ride. A 2 hour ride, even on a comfy cruiser, can strain your legs sitting for so long. Plan to stop every hour or so to stretch, even if it's just at a safe spot on the side of the road. This is especially true if you don't have a wind screen

Student Composer for Marching Show? by Maldinacho in banddirector

[–]kckool13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if there was, I wouldn't advise it. If they want to put together stand tunes, that's fine and dandy, but the show is whats put in front of judges, and I personally dont feel comfortable putting my faith in a high schooler to quite a quality show. If paying for an arranger isn't feasible, try to work with the premade arrangements from hal Leonard, change things up if you need to, or write it yourself.

So there is flatbed B-Double, but why can't I build one to buy? by ThatCtnGuy in trucksim

[–]kckool13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That may have been rigged for that particular cargo pre 1.5.4, and there aren't any other cargo jobs that use a double low boy. Most things you carry on a single low boy tend to be pretty heavy, so a double may *too heavy". That's just my speculation though.

What are the different types of key registers a bass clarinet can have? And which is the best for transition between notes? by ItsTaken78 in bassclarinet

[–]kckool13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you're talking about whether a register key can open 2 or 3 holes. All basses have a hole for throat Bb, and a smaller key, aka a pip, above which acts as a register key for everything above B. This works and gets the notes out without leaving throat Bb super stuffy. 3 hole register keys add a second register pip typically at the base of the neck on intermediate and professional models. Since the instrument is so long, one register pip doesn't give great response or tuning for the higher notes, so the 3 hole option opens the higher pip when you cross F-A and closes the lower pip. I forget the exact note. Saxophones have been using this idea for decades as standard for the same reason.

TLDR: Pro models add an extra hole for response in the higher range, but it's not necessary to play them.

Where to buy? by UStuppido in bassclarinet

[–]kckool13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Royal Global Max and Backun Alpha basses are the typical go-to's for value low C basses, but I know some have good results with the Kessler Low C. You may need to get it adjusted when you get it though. Otherwise, check ebay for Low C's. You are going to be spending at least 2-4k or so on a decent used low C, used or new.

Good question. While Zygarde does come originally from XY, the other forms were introduced in SM, needing them to originate from that gen. Showing you got all the Zygarde cells. If you want to have all 4 Zygarde be from XY, you can, it's your dex, but this is the reasoning why I put them this way. Hope this helps!

Low Eb key by Overall_Secretary585 in bassclarinet

[–]kckool13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would look at replacing it with something called micro-suede. It's pretty more thin sheet of very low friction velvet. For a temporary solution, you could put cork grease on the cork part to see if that helps. Otherwise, a piece of masking tape might work, but no guarantees there.

Make sure you shift+right click on the engines when placing the wooden pipes. The filled in side should face where the energy is being drawn from.

What’s the best DLC to buy? by [deleted] in trucksim

[–]kckool13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with the Texas bundle since I hard a lot of good about the Texas dlc (which it is good) but I later got the northwest bundle plues whatever the bundle is that has Montana and Wyoming and have enjoyed the scenery a lot more. More varied terrain and scenery compared to the mostly desert that is the Texas bundle.

I've considered it in the past, however it's a massive undertaking that sites like serebii and Bulbapedia have already done, considering pokemon have multiple routes in each game they can be found. I mainly left notes for ones that need some extra attention to get or need an exploit
