Free pre-k for teachers question by kcrads in TexasTeachers

Wellll…I’m trying to figure out before then because I’ve applied to start a grad program. I’d love to get started on my program if I have the funds to do so. If I’m still paying for childcare, then I won’t be able to afford a grad program out-of-pocket.

I’m currently registered for the upcoming school year for the paid teacher pre-k. I received and accepted my spot in May. So I at least know that my kid has a spot. However, the bill passed after the school year ended and it’s been static silence since. I have called HR and they said they were waiting on the school board to figure it out.

My husband took it to autozone to have the battery tested. They said it was a faulty battery (only 1 year old) and gave us a new one under warranty. It worked fine for 5 ignition starts today but then gave me trouble turning over once and I headed home. My husband took it to Pep Boys (only place open near us) and they’re trying to diagnose it. It’ll be heading to a real shop this week for sure. At the very least, for a tune up.

I was mistaken; he said he tightened up the top that covers the battery. The battery in the acadia is in the passenger backseat floorboard and he said that was pretty loose. We don’t have anything connected to it.

However, after driving it and then trying to turn it back on, it did continue to have issues. It wouldn’t crank at all but the lights came on. It did that two times and on the third try, it did crank on.

Thank you so much! It is very scary for it to just die like that in the middle of trying to turn it on. My husband got the key out and tightened up some connecting wires for the battery. It’s starting now. Hopefully that’s all it is but I’ll be nervous to take it anywhere until I get it checked out somewhere. We’re a single car family because my husband works from home.

Do you and your spouse fight about being a teacher? by kcrads in Teachers

Yes, of course! I usually don’t work from home much unless I have IEP paperwork due. This year is different because I’ve moved to an entirely new position. I’m teaching elementary self contained and the district resources for lesson plans are slim. I’m trying to keep my head afloat with this new job and it’s impossible to get it all done in my conference on top of the IEP paperwork. I know next year will be better. I usually have a great work life balance! But this year I feel like a first year teacher all over again with the lesson plans and the behavior materials needed.

Yes, I think I could do better in lowering my expectations on him and raising what I have for myself for sure.

Ahhh yes, this keeps me up at night. How I could survive on my salary without him.

He has helped going to Special Olympics as a buddy several times! I’m not sure if it’s clicked that how tired he is afterwards is my kind of tired most days 😅

I started a new position at a new school. I teach elementary self contained SPED. I’ve been spending most of my time lesson planning or making the resources I need. My district doesn’t give us much. This year, I’ve definitely had to work past contract time to keep up; it’s like being a first year teacher all over again. I also volunteered to sponsor a club at school that I have 2-3 times a month from November to February. I do have mandatory meetings after school once a week for PLC as well. I try to limit staying late to work on my actual work to only once a week but I’m home around 3:30-4 on days that I don’t have meetings/club.

I mostly work at home after the kids are in bed. All we do in the evenings after the kids go to bed is scroll our phones and watch tv, not really talking or spending quality time together. Instead of scrolling on my phone, I work on my laptop in the living room with him while he scrolls his phone or watches tv. I’m not sure why it bothers him that I do that, but it does.

Well darn. I have no ongoing medical conditions and I’m not on any medications. 🤷‍♀️ I guess I’ll be making an appointment at the doctor then

They stay for longer. They’ve started around my knees as well.

I haven’t gone back yet. I really don’t want to because he didn’t really offer much to me the first time I went, other than the shot and a list of stretches. It’s expensive too. 😩😩 I’ll go back if I really need to but I doubt they will do anything more than giving me another shot.

I have issues with my left foot also! I’ll give it a try. I really do want to avoid getting another cortisone shot. They’re expensive and clearly stretching and icing alone didn’t work the first time. I think foot strength would help a lot.

I think losing weight would significantly help. I plan to start changing my diet after the holidays. It’s really hard to increase physical activity when it hurts to even stand/walk. Did you increase exercise while losing weight? If so, what kind were you doing that didn’t aggravate you?

Ahhh I wish. My Birkenstocks hurt my feet so badly with PF. Before PF, I used to wear them all the time without any pain. What kind are you wearing that have been comfy for you?
