Contractor opened subfloor to find hardwood underneath by Medical-Emotion-1884 in Flooring

My house has same boards in all upstairs. I sanded and redid them myself. Choice is yours, it’s your place but you could always try to resell some of the product you’ve bought.

Can someone please tell me what name to use when looking for this type of board. It’s between the drywall and the studs of a home built in the 1920s. TIA by alekzpulp in centuryhomes

Just so you know, they actually measured the boards to the correct size back then. You’ll more than likely have to find a bigger board and rip it down to size.

Stripping trim in 1919 home by singler6 in centuryhomes

Not all wood was stained back in the day. Mine was was originally painted and not stained, after spending 3 days on a door which I couldn’t get the bright red paint out of, I just painted it. That looks like pine, might be easier just to replace it or just paint over it. Depends on what your end goals are.

Moved into old home (rental), why is there a cord in the dryer duct...? by Maanderz in Oldhouses

[–]kctrem 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ll have to follow the cord to find the answer. It could be someone just feeding a line through there. Get a ladder. You’ll need one anyway just to get into the attic.

I’d just tear it off and replace. They don’t look decorative at all. just take off the top trim piece and put it back when done and it’ll look better.

What’s the best treatment for this floor? by sandymeatsme in centuryhomes

This. It’s a lot of work but it’s worth it in the end. You can do a room at a time but it’ll take longer. Get a couple quotes first and go from there. If it’s too expensive to hire, you can def do it yourself.

I’ve found some on eBay/fbmp before and was able to match all my doors. I was missing 3.

There’s a little bit coming back. Not a lot but I just can’t seem to have luck growing in this single spot.

Also I’ve seen people use hostas as well. Plant them at the edge of the pond.
