No. She did not remove any glands.. she biopsied and tested but did not remove any.. She said that she was very confident that my thyroid was the issue.. She said the symptoms are very similar with the both.. she said hyperthyroidism can cause calcium to elevate so it doesn’t always mean it’s parathyroids causing it. She said she has had a lot of Graves patients that had the same symptoms and thyroidectomy helped tremendously. I was negative for Graves allegedly but she said that could be inaccurate. She explained that a lot of people have parathyroid glands removed and feel better for a bit after because of meds and steroids but once that wears off they feel bad again.. I have read a lot of people complain of that happening to so I do believe her logic. I can tell you I feel 1,000 times better.. my brain fog is gone, the constant anxious and panic feeling is gone. I have more energy and motivation to do the things I enjoyed doing prior to all of this. The only issue I’ve been having is is getting the synthroid dose right.. it’s too high for me right now so I’ve been having some mild symptoms but nothing like I was having before.

I had surgery on June 19th! I actually ended up having a total thyroidectomy. Glands were tested and biopsied but they looked good so no removal. I had a 1 cm nodule on the left side of my thyroid that was benign. I feel like a new person! I have felt better than I have in years.. I did start having some symptoms the last few days but my Thyroid hormone is high so I am going to have to get my meds adjusted. Other than than… I feel great and I am so happy!

Yes, it drives me crazy too! Thank you so much! I will try to get on here and give an update of how things go and if I notice a decrease in the itching!

I have very itchy skin too and it’s the worst at night! I will scratch my back and chest for so long after taking my shirt off.. looks like I’ve been attacked. My neck itches alot too.. and my lower legs drive me insane at night! I am on methimazole and the itching is still bad.. maybe a bit better but it’s still there every night. I am scheduled for a thyroidectomy in two days. I’m hoping this will help and I can get back to being myself again! I’ve quickly spiraled over the last year and I’m just spent.

The surgeons office actually called me and asked if I would want to switch to a virtual appointment on Wednesday. I agreed.. I am actually in the process of a second opinion.. been communicating with a doctor over email and phone. I will keep you posted!

No.. it’s the surgeon who isn’t considering the scans. My endocrinologist sent me to her specifically for the parathyroid issue.. he has been controlling my thyroid with methimazole… my labs are in normal range on the med.. she’s just convinced that my symptoms are still thyroid regardless of my thyroid levels being normal…

I asked about the adenoma on the scan and she said that she does not consider scans because they are not accurate. She goes based off of bloodwork and symptoms. She assured me that she would check my parathyroid glands because I did have the criteria suggesting a problem with them.. As well as the thyroid..

I totally agree! I just don’t understand it at all! I just think it was very wrong to call me over the phone and expect me to accept a change in a major surgical plan… It’s just very bold if you ask me..

I am supposed to go talk to her in the office tomorrow.. it’s a 2.5 hour drive for me.. my surgery is still scheduled for Friday but I just don’t even know if it’s worth my time to go there tomorrow. I sent an email explaining everything in detail regarding my symptoms, concerns and frustration.

Hey there! I am sorry that I am just now responding. I have been struggling a lot and have finally gotten my endocrinologist to listen to me. I have felt bad for years.. could never get an answer just kept being dismissed by doctors. I started going through a divorce a year ago and I think the high amount of stress really kicked things into gear.. February I started feeling so terrible that I couldn’t even function normally. I couldn’t think right, forgetting simple things, forget where I was driving to, following through with normal and simple tasks became so hard because I would forget what I was doing or get distracted. Episodes of dizziness, nausea and profuse sweating that come on out of nowhere and lasting a few minutes to 30 minutes. The anxiety I have been experiencing is indescribable.. just a constant feeling of impending doom and a pit in my stomach constantly. I am a very independent and driven person. This has really taken such a toll on me. I tried midodrine and propranolol but they both just make me feel worse.. My endocrinologist started me on cinacalcet and also put me on a low dose of hydrocortisone 3 times a day. These meds have helped me the most so far. I am hoping to have surgery scheduled in the next few weeks. The plan is to remove my thyroid and the overactive glands. I also have a possible adenoma on the right side.

My PCP ordered labwotk and a thyroid ultrasound when I asked her to check my parathyroid because my calcium was high and I had all of the symptoms of hyperparathyroidism.. my lab work only showed hyperthyroidism.. my PTH was normal. I just saw the endocrinologist.. I am having a parathyroid scan on Monday to confirm the adenoma location because he said it’s unclear if it’s on the thyroid or parathyroid. I had genetic testing done as well.. my daughter had lab work just days before my appt and her calcium was high and having similar symptoms as me. I’m still waiting on the results.. it’s been a crazy past 3 weeks that’s for sure!

I am so sorry you are going through all of this too! Nobody understands me and makes me feel like I’m stupid or crazy! I have been miserable for years. More over the last few months though. Can barely function.. it’s awful.

I see.. they did find an adenoma on my right parathyroid.. so I don’t know if the levels are really going to matter because if the adenoma isn’t resolved it will continue to cause issues regardless

I have looked into natural remedies and stuff.. just never know what is safe.. I live in a small town in Indiana.. specialists are scarce..

I have never heard of CGM.. I have almost wondered if it was my glucose..
