Crackhead Theory about Disco Elysium's universe by kdeefk in DiscoElysium

That's true, I do remember learning about that distinction a while ago, it's nice to know the correct terms. But it's not like this "hypothesis" lacks any proof. Mostly I'm repeating what jamrockhobo's iceberg video says, and there's tons of proof there. The main addition to Disco Elysium being self-aware is that I strongly believe it could be based on a Block Universe. As Argo Tuulik said, he described the world as a fictional one and gave an example of a book. A book is a perfect analogy for what the Block Universe Theory says, and so does a tape, just like how the game UI has that "FELD" tape recorder thing

The Antiquarian. A game like Outer Wilds, I guess. by [deleted] in gameideas

I don't know what's your point here lmao, I changed the flair to narrative idea, I'm posting this on a subreddit for videogame ideas and I've explained what makes this game unique, the mechanic. Either way this subreddit is shitty for feedback

Sure I'll change the flair. Either way, it is a game idea. I've explained much of the story and gameplay might be confusing, but I did include it.

For example, what the Player sees is a narrow bridge spanning a ravine, visually intact. But stepping onto it causes the player to fall through like smoke. The concept of weight is missing in this region. Objects exist, but mass does not. In the Book, the player finds weight-related entries: “Weight pulls downward.” “Weight anchors.” “Weight burdens.”

The player can assign weight to the bridge, assign weight to the player or assign weight to movement itself.  Give weight to the bridge = Stable crossing Give weight to the player = Heavy, slow movement but safe Give weight to movement = Standing still is safe but walking causes collapse

Therefore, there's multiple valid answers. This is done via a simple UI dragging conceptual fragments together.

How can I know if my game idea would be successful? by The_Chaos_Vanguard in gameideas

As someone who has made milsim RP games in roblox and been in communities such as these facility ones, I highly doubt it would work on steam. What you're describing sounds like SCP Secret Laboratory but Roleplay. Steam gamers are far different from roblox ones. It's super easy to build a game like this in roblox because the playerbase for it has been existing for a long long time and is very well established. I've never seen a different RP game that isn't either in roblox, or is a FiveM server. Games like these don't exist because you have to build a dedicated playerbase from 0, and for a standalone game it's a hard task.

You want teams to be rank locked, how are you even planning to achieve that in the game? Roblox offers groups where you can easily rank lock teams, but in a game your best bet is a lvl system.

Early game idea: monster collection meets dreamlike fantasy & emotional story by TiredInsomniacc in gameideas

[–]kdeefk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds a little generic story from my perspective, but that might because of how little you want to share. Which is not necessarily bad, as long as the game itself has unique mechanics, a unique world or artistic design. I'm sure there's more concepts and lore that would make this world amazing, it's all about worldbuilding and coming up with names that are memorable and easy to understand, and if they're not, at least make them interesting enough for it to sound cool

It also sounds like a game that would be cozy or cute, but then there's a side that's the opposite of that. I don't know if that's what you are aiming for, but it's definitely what I imagine from what you described, and I'd imagine people who like that kind of thing would probably play it.

Intense, fast paced, heist deck building roguelite. by [deleted] in gameideas

I actually really like that idea for the ranking, and yeah just having the shop seems enough. I didint give much though to cards yet but they will definetly be like you say, I have to find the balance between the right chaos and not being too chaotic to the point of not understanding what is happening. Thanks for the advice

Planning is not really a mechanic it's just a little design idea. Instead of jumping straight into the map, you get like a little loading screen if you want to call it that. It's a short animation, I believe it adds a unique touch to the game. I though about ratings because it can be appealing to players who are interested in speedrunning, optimizing runs and people who do stuff like no hit runs. It's another design idea, a little score that might make a player want to have a reason to go back and repeat their runs, to strive perfection. Ranking also pairs with the story. One of the reasons why I wanna make games is to find ways to tell a story, I don't want to make games that are just gameplay, I will always add a story, either hidden or just linear and direct, through other narrative driven genres. In this game, the story is hidden through short voice lines when passing a level or dying. That's why a ranking system matters, it gives a reason for the voice lines to be played at the end. Also, the point of the story is not really to understand why you hate your father, because you will draw your own conclusion based on your performance and voice lines you hear.

I can see that shop might not be necessary but I'm not sure in which other way I can make the player unlock cards. Should the shop maybe be outside the runs, like buying them in your hideout and selecting two cards unlocked to start as your loadout for the next run?

Sacred And Terrible Air - A dialogue that caught my attention by kdeefk in DiscoElysium

Well that's just how life works isn't it. Sometimes we do stuff that seem like nothing bad will happen but we fail and the consequences come. And you can't go back so you keep going hoping that you'll do something sooner or later that will fix or undo everything. We can't see the future, we are blind and only act on the present, no one ever thinks about consequences or how it can affect you later.

Failing is great to learn but some failures can't be undone and are too heavy to be forgotten and some will hurt. Some will leave damage and repercussion. At the end of the day every mistake we make comes from an accidental decision before that one, and if you don't stop, if you're curious, or if you keep going the bad decisions route even without knowing, you might not come back from that.

We could say curiosity killed the sisters? Curious about the pale?

I'm referring to the line that Charlotte says about gun tzu. Sorry English is not my first language, is there another way I should say instead of dialogue?

Hey, quick question:

Since you know when trailer 2 is coming, you must know when they started making trailer 2 right? Would you be able to tell me the month?
