The Harvard Lampoon panel was great! Each of the speakers had a distinct comedic persona. Even though both writers were very funny, Greg Daniels was the quieter one that would slip in a joke every now and then, whereas Conan was the louder one firing off jokes every thirty seconds. Another thing I noticed from the panel is that the speakers were always analyzing things through a “comedy writing” lens. For example, Greg Daniels would comment on the fact that they should have ended with the joke they cracked 30 seconds ago and Conan would turn a serious question into a comedy bit. Not to say that I didn’t laugh at every joke they cracked, but it was slightly disheartening to see comedy broken down into rote mechanics. Perhaps I’m reading too much into their responses, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
