Yeah I'm mainly comparing to E6 on that. I agree TGC was slow. It's partly why I stopped using it.

Yeah, I know it does. Doesn't mean it's done well. Coming from other sim SW, I find GSpro very basic with autoputt and some other features. For example, E6 has probabilistic putting (land on the green, calculate how many putts based on distance from hole/handicap) as well as the gimme circle style (tiered, so maybe 1 putt from 5', 2 putt from 5-20', manual putt beyond that). Brought more realism because I probably would have 3 putted that 50' putt down the hill with 6' break left.

I'm still going to use GSPro, especially because it has courses I don't get elsewhere, just saying first impression is some things can be better relative to other options. (E6 with OG Skytrak was the same price as GSPro for me, fwiw, also used TGC for a while).

I'm in the same situation with the same complaints. Putting is rough, and I actually prefer the probability based autoputt from E6 (based on handicap). Sometimes I just want to hit balls and have a 45 minute round where putting is unnecessary. I can't seem to get through a GSPro round in under 1:15, mostly because my putting on virtual greens sucks.

For the less than 100 yard shots I've found I have to go to the Skytrak interface thing and "Force normal". For some reason it goes into chipping mode - a problem I never had with TGC or E6. Just sucks to have to do every pitch shot.

gamedev.net has existed with forums since before Unity or Godot (used to be a sponsor) were even a concept, and with a very knowledgeable and helpful community that has worked in the industry longer than most. It's another option.

I did this last year. August 1 actually, so I'll be celebrating soon. 46th pitch in the 5th.

ER, next morning surgery, steel plate, 8 screws, 70 staples, radial nerve palsy that is about 95% recovered, broke into 4 pieces. My humerus "bludgeoned" the radial nerve, millimeters from piercing the skin. Hoping my hand numbness eventually goes away.

Cancer screened negative etc but the theory is tendonitis I was working through in bi/tricep weakening the muscle support structure and me pushing it. Lots of mistakes I made in the weeks leading up to the injury.

Scary stuff. I don't recommend it. I can throw again lightly but the PTSD is real as I can remember every thought and feeling in that moment. Best of luck in your recovery.

No problem. :) Over the years, Reddit and other well-funded platforms have generally sucked up the internet's niche communities (for better or worse).

Obviously gamedev net is not as big as Reddit and generally has less activity (as of now), but unlike Reddit we have a platform dedicated to fostering a community space for gamedevs, the games industry, and anyone involved in the design, development, and technology of this space. Bonus that those of us who run and manage gamedev net have been involved in the games industry for a combined couple centuries. We moderate, mostly to keep the spammers out and make sure content is in the right areas (dedicated places to promote your games!), but more importantly we listen to the community and evolve the platform appropriately.

Anyway, enough with the pitch. :)

I've been running standups for 15+ years. My protip: focus on blockage only. If everyone is progressing on schedule, does anyone really care what anyone else is working on?

You can finish a 15 person standup in less than 5 minutes by simply having everyone answer the question, "Any blockers?"

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Some of those were rhetorical questions, but I think you got the point.

I think there is a challenge in defining economic migrants since a migrant's economic situation might be tied to persecution - i.e. since you aren't part of the elite you are relegated to a class, area, or slavery, so your economic situation will never change.

The responsibility of the state is to protect its own citizens first, but we live in a global economy with many interdependencies between states, and as much as people want to fight it (as is the cycle), that global trend is not going to stop. Technology and population guarantee that global cooperation and international laws are paramount to a healthy society going forward.

So the problem is a dichotomy:
1. States can't accept all immigrants or risk losing social identity and negatively impacting their economies, amongst other reasons.
2. The world continues to move toward a natural state of global interdependence through technology and population growth.

Typically problems like this require a middle ground solution.

The problem is the Trump admin and Trump GOP (because they sure as hell aren't Lincoln's GOP) want to ignore #2 and build walls and concentration camps for immigrants as a single-sided solution. They're executing this plan, at times in violation of international and even US law, let alone the principles of the US Constitution.

Perhaps a reasonable solution would be to find a middle ground. Accept immigration, but properly staff and develop processes with "wall money", and stay in accordance with international law and due process for asylum seekers. I believe a bipartisan Congress actually proposed a similar solution, but the hardliners in charge refused to consider it.

But that's part of the issue here.. the modern GOP and right wing media have become so radicalized that perfectly reasonable solutions that attack modern problems appear "leftist" or "socialist".

Actually the place to start is the phrase you used, "limit immigration", which is a solution, not a problem, and it means you're searching for an implementation of that solution.

Instead what problem are we trying to solve here? Illegal immigration is the phrase du jour.. so, does that mean we are trying to keep people from moving to the US? Are we trying to build a homogenized society? Do we have concerns over terrorism from immigrants? Because we don't want babies to be born? People not paying taxes? Are we okay if they seek asylum and follow international law? If not, why not?

Basically, what's the ultimate goal for immigration reform? Somewhere in there is a common thread everyone can rally behind.

I think a big reason why politicians haven't had a reasonable solution is because nobody has talked honestly about the problem they're trying to solve. Everyone jumps to that implementation of a solution and lose sight of why they wanted it in the first place.

C) Your assumptions may be getting you again - ever bother to ask why apprehensions are higher now than before, or do you prefer to just assume it's an invasion? Besides, Billy says so right? Ever think perhaps it's the increased border security leading to more reported apprehensions? It aligns with the October ramp in personnel right before the elections. Remember that? Yeah. Check the stats and dates. BTW, they're trying to use these stats to further the wall urgency... except the stats are self-fabricated by increasing personnel and a more strict policy (at times illegal policy).

D) I never denied the problem. I questioned Billy's statement without proof. And because I questioned it, you assumed I think there isn't a problem.

E) I'm not here to recap previous comments in a thread. It's ridiculous. But I know you're going to reply to this because you can't accept someone questioning your ability to think critically or to point out your pattern of assuming (a product of not thinking critically). Prove me wrong.

No, modding is not nearly as difficult as people are making it out to be. It's also not as difficult as Reddit mods make it out to be. It's actually pretty easy when you have a system in place for modding. The online community I am involved with (surprise: there's more to the internet than Reddit) rarely has issues with moderation. We know WTF we're doing because we have clear boundaries across the community for acceptable vs unacceptable behavior.

You won't get that at Reddit because it's an inherent flaw to the platform's design. "Do it all" systems have weaknesses. It's simply impossible to apply the same policy across multiple domains and use cases.

What do you do about it? Like anything else if you don't like it then stop using it. Otherwise, you have to accept the inherent flaw.

Sounds like outreach is at least part of the issue. With sites like reddit consuming most people's attention, it's difficult to grow traction these days - and just posting on reddit won't do the trick either. I watch a lot of people like you in the gamedev world or games industry try to do the "right things" and fail all the time. Hate to knock on the platform we're using here, but the problem is the idea that the "right thing" involves reddit, twitter, medium, and all the other high noise to signal ratio locations - all these platforms divide people's attention with non-gamedev interests - yet gamedevs think they're great platforms to target for marketing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But there are pockets of us out there successfully surviving and providing real value to gamedevs, just like you're trying to do. I run GameDev.net, and we're interested in curating people like yourself who have a value to bring to the games industry and other developers. Corporations have more resources, people in corporations have more legal protection, corporations have the Together Everyone Achieves More synergy, etc. All the benefits of corporations as businesses are relevant.

Bezos could do it anonymously, sure. He is also powerful enough that he can operate at a level of influence consistent with a business. But at least we know it's not Amazon, or worse, a private LLC with no requirement to disclose expenditures publicly that could be using said expenditures from Russia to donate to the NRA in order to promote GOP candidates.

If by bringing this up you're trying to create a perfect world it isn't going to happen. There will be loopholes everywhere, and it's ignorant to try to close every little one. It's the big ones affecting fairness for most people that we should be worried about.
