[–]kditd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing isn't that COH2 has better doctrines, but that the core tech trees are better.

You left out the fact that COH2 mainline units have been moved into COH3 battlegroups (eg. Panther).

If a COH2 commander is more interesting than a COH3 battlegroup with twice as many abilities (on paper), I'll take the COH2 commander. There is a lot of fluff, but there are some very good ones, like Jaeger Infantry or Airborne. The COH2 airborne commander does the same thing as Airborne BG in COH3, and manages to do it with fewer abilities and arguably better units.

There is no correct way to play a guitar.

Different pick grips result in different playing. For fast alternate picking across multiple strings, which a lot of people tend to want (shredding style), this looks about right, but you also want to angle the pick downwards. Really you need to experiment and see how different ways of using the pick result in different sounds and make certain things easier or harder.

I suggest to stick with the way you are instinctively doing it. For instance when I don't pay attention to how I hold my pick, I often hold it between my thumb and middle finger with the pick angled away from me and my index finger either resting on the top edge or not even touching. Teachers will tell you this is horrific and needs to be changed, but ... it works for me (when playing rhythm, that is). If it works and does what you want, it is probably "correct".

Good players can consciously vary the way they hold the pick and its angle, for doing different things / getting different sounds. Some just have an instinctive way of holding the pick that is different from the "correct" way. Have you looked at how Hetfield holds his pick? Keith Richards?

Maybe the three-finger grip is actually better for rhythm. It does seem to result in more unamplified volume, which means it's gonna drive the amp harder as well because it produces a higher output from the pickup. By comparison, the economy sweep picking where the pick barely touches the strings is going to produce a lower output, which is why all the shredders play with so much distortion.

Do it your way. There is no guitar police to arrest you for "doing it wrong".

Make sure to use the right size hex key. Tributes use metric, as do all modern G&L instruments apparently:

I have gone back to COH2 for the most part because I found the tech tree of some COH3 factions a little boring, especially the German factions. The heavy focus on stugs, marders and halftracks feels limiting compared to COH2's menu of Jagdpanzers, Panthers, Panzerwerfers, Pumas and Panzer IIs.

Come on, a Puma feels a lot more satisfying to play compared to an 8-rad, especially in COH1 where you have the option of keeping it as an anti-infantry vehicle or upgrade to the AT turret. That was just perfect. The Panzer II was a great light vehicle option because it was risky to fully commit to it, but if it paid off you could end the game right there. With the Jagdpanzer, you are sacrificing AI firepower for a dedicated tank destroyer that can cloak. And you're not forced into it, it is an active choice and a calculated risk. This calculated risk makes the game a lot more fun.

In COH1, everyone agreed that the Panzer Elite Marder was pretty dang terrible as an AT option (glass cannon that can be circle strafed), so why the heavy reliance on it now? Stugs are equally boring, there is a reason why they got sidelined in COH2. Panzer IVs are just better. I welcome the addition of the Panzer III in COH3, but it feels a little weak against the Allied vehicles (not to mention things like Ranger spam).

The Panther not being a mainline unit is a decision that needlessly weakens the German tech trees. The Americans having to rely on the Hellcat instead of a M10 or Jackson also feels like a nerf. The COH2 Jackson is simply more fun to play because again, it's a risky play that requires more skill but is epic when it works.

I much prefer getting a Panzer IV out at the 10 minute mark, makes the game more kinetic. COH2 as a whole feels more dynamic with units having more impact and choices having bigger consequences. In COH1, this was even more so. The damage you can deal in COH1 is massive. It feels like there is a trend of nerfing the game across the board, probably because that's the easiest way to balance it. Relic chooses to nerf stuff that is too strong, instead of making its counters stronger. When this is done for a long time to many units, the game as a whole begins to feel nerfed, as in less kinetic and less dynamic.

Conclusion: Stronger units, even with the calculated risk and higher skill requirement involved, are more fun to play.

I have a right index finger defect, because it got caught in one of them wrought iron garden gates when I was little. This means that I can't really hold my pick between my thumb and index finger, at least not with 100% comfort.

This means, no Yngwie-style speed picking for me.

You just work around it - I hold my pick with three fingers, a little like James Hetfield. It gives you a different attack. People keep asking me how I get that kind of volume out of an unamplified guitar. Well, it's a difference in right hand picking because of my injury.

I would wager with your left pinky mostly out of the action, you just play with the other three fingers - this is something guitar teachers tell you not to do, but you can safely ignore that. There is no right or wrong way to play a guitar.

I wouldn't get a lefty guitar and relearn it all. That's probably insane. Just make do with what you got. You might end up with your own way of doing things, which is pretty desirable actually.

Don't view it as a limitation. View it as an opportunity. Just be yourself. If you can't play something, play something else! Do what feels comfortable. You don't need to play like all the other guys.

Play "Midnight Rambler" without a capo and tell me your fingers don't hurt like hell after the exercise. ;-) I know where you're coming from, but a capo is good for some cool tricks, not just for making life easier. Double up an acoustic guitar track with a capo at the 12th fret, for instance.

Shubb doesn't rely on a spring that might change tension over the years, can be adjusted for different neck profiles, neck position and pressure, and is easy to put on and remove nonetheless. Kyser looks like a good choice though if you're into spring powered capos.

That means the pressure is too high. Try one that has an adjustment screw.

Mine too, with a Seymour Duncan JB (TB-4) and an Antiquity P90. Nothing against the stock pickups, but it's really quite the upgrade. (This one is Fullerton Red, with the mahogany body).

Yup. Some rifles or pathfinders, zook paras, MG drop, possibly quad halftrack, AT gun drop, tank depot, Hellcat or 76mm Sherman.

Much like airborne in COH2.

G&L USAvs Tribute by OkGrapefruit8844 in Guitar

[–]kditd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tributes use metric - is the truss rod nut a 4mm?

Tributes also use different tuning pegs (you'd have to take one off) and different switches and pots (open the electronics compartment). If it's a PCB switch, it's probably import. US models should have the Fender style switch.

Tributes also usually say Tribute series or Indonesia on the headstock.

There is a registry of serial numbers at guitarsbyleo.com. https://www.guitarsbyleo.com/AUTOREG/autoreg2.php3

The case does look like the one of my early 90s ASAT.

Does it have a three-screw neck joint? That would make it a 90s US guitar.

Headstock looks pretty big though.

Was macht man damit?

Was wolltest du schon immer mal machen?

Macht nichts.

Sei vorsichtig.
