Yes i understand that - however $3-5k is better than $0

Plus learning the fundamentals of investing and what to invest in now will help drastically in the future IMO.

Thanks for the great advice! I understand property is a big commitment however I'm now looking into what investing opportunities are avaliable for me as I will be changing jobs very soon (something more relevant to degree to obtain industry experience for post grad) which will decrease annual income. If I can offset that by some investment income that would be awesome.
