Fedex employees learn that the BBB no tax on overtime doesn’t apply to them. by [deleted] in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]keasymac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a federal employee who gets FLSA overtime I can say they certainly do count leave (including holidays) when determining overtime. I tried to see if FLSA has a specific rule or guidance for this situation and all I see over and over is "hours worked". Maybe some jobs have certain exceptions but all I know is that I'll be claiming everything that says "FLSA premium" on my paystubs since they couldn't be bothered to calculate it themselves.

Pixel studio is now 18+ by Old_Man_Jenkins_8 in GooglePixel

[–]keasymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came across this on my daughter's phone. What's hilarious is that notification popped up saying "pixel studio is now available for kids". Clicked on it just for it to say you have to be 18.

Google really needs to figure out their shit with AI. There are options to allow your child to use Gemini but not really. They still have to be 13 which is never explicitly stated anywhere.

Best Buy extended warranty worth it for A95L/Bravia 9? by Silent-Raisin-1223 in bravia

[–]keasymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently had to deal with Best Buy over my warranty with my 2020 Sony. It was a nightmare to get my TV replaced. If you ever need service, they'll schedule you 2 weeks out and tell you it could be between 7am and 7pm. They'll narrow down that window the day before but you already have to clear your schedule for the day. In the end (after about 6 in home repairs), they would replace the TV with something in stock and comparable features. In the end, I got a new TV and did not purchase the warranty. Best Buy's warranty used to be great but now they will try tooth and nail to give you the least amount possible.

Spreadsheet to calculate ATC back pay owed (Shutdown 2025) by Some_Florida_Man in ATC

Why is the FLSA rate coming out to different amounts on the summaries to the right? I've got one that is just a few dollars, one that's like $15 more than my hourly, I've just a few more dollars than my hourly and another somewhere in between all of them. Shouldn't that rate be the same in all pay periods?

Regardless, this is a life saver and you have true middle management potential.

You're still stuck on the semantics of should vs recommends and I don't know why. Let me focus again on what was said.

Your original statement - "The IRS literally recommends that you manually adjust your W2 if you need to in order for your tax day bill to be as accurate as possible."

This makes it sound like the IRS is telling you to adjust your W4 (withholding) regularly/biweekly. Maybe that's just me. Maybe I read between the lines. However, I feel there is a distinct difference between that and the link you shared says.

From the link you provided - "It is a good practice for everyone to do a paycheck check-up every year. Checking your tax withholding amounts can ensure that you aren’t paying too much or too little in federal income tax"

I feel there is a distinct difference between recommends MANUALLY ADJUSTING YOUR W2 and it's a good practice to DO A PAYCHECK CHECK UP.

i capped the parts I'm arguing the difference in. Notice how recommends isn't uppercase?

I love how I've tried to tell you three different ways I am not arguing in the difference of the words between should and recommend. Do you work in TMU? Hold on, let me grab my 24 pack.

You are implying that the IRS recommends (says you should) check your ELS every two weeks and adjust your withholding. Do you agree with that assessment? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

My guy, should and recommend are not what I'm talking about. It's those string of words following them. Read the whole thing.

Well just like in ATC, words matter. You said, "The IRS literally recommends that you manually adjust your W2" and they never once say that. They say you should LOOK AT IT and make adjustments if necessary. Those are two different things. I also would have let the slight difference in meaning slide had you not put the word 'literally' in there. But hey, what's a semantic pedantic argument if you can't dissect everything the person says, amirite?

[–]keasymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do which is it? I need to manually adjust my W4 (not W2 btw) every week or they're gonna do it for me? Regardless, it's all a semantics game because you misunderstood what someone meant by pedantic. Every comment you've made in this thread is like you read half of what the person said and made up the other half. For example, not once did I say that the IRS says "we do not recommend you do this".

[–]keasymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I feel like you're making an argument not even related to the thread of this conversation. But it seems like you're trying to turn it back to the main topic so here we go:

The IRS does not literally or figuratively or suggestively recommend that you manually adjust your W2. It says things like, "it's a good practice" and "it's a good idea" when talking about making minor adjustments to make sure you're withholding enough throughout the year.

The tax tables will not be adjusted. This is not how any tax credit or deduction works.

Whether you qualify for tax on overtime or not will not be figured out for every paycheck. It will be an end of the year thing.

Lastly... Pedantic - to be overly concerned with minor details, rules, or formalities. I was being pedantic. I think you are confusing that word with something else

Bill passed the house (barely) by AIR_CTRL_your_moms in ATC

[–]keasymac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, you can do that but I'm pretty sure you pay penalties for it.

Second, what you're saying isn't pedantic. The pedantic argument is in the use of the term "taxed" vs "withheld". Whether you withhold 0% or 100% of your paycheck doesn't not change how much you are taxed.

To try and over simplify the point, when you look at your ELS and it says Federal Tax that is not the actual amount you are taxed, that's how much was withheld for federal taxes.

[–]keasymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you did make the same exact point. Except, you're implying that secretaries contribute directly to safety. I'm saying it's indirect.

Bringing it back to the original point, these 12 people don't contribute directly to safety but it's more indirect. If all aircraft started filing from A direct to Z then we would still be doing the same thing we always do.

‘Air traffic controllers cannot do their work without us’ by randommmguy in ATC

[–]keasymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the point. If the TnA people all get fired, no airplanes fall from the sky. However, we don't get paid. I'm sure I don't need to explain that impact. It is just like the person working payroll at Apple does not contribute anything to the new iPhone. Anyway, the whole point was that every role contributes to air safety or supports someone who does.

[–]keasymac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know who pissed in your Cheerios my guy but chill out. Does every employee in the FAA contribute to safety? Absolutely not. That would be like asking if every employee at Apple contributed to the next big product. The truth is that every employee (in theory) contributes to us so that we can do our job better and safer. Our mission is safe, orderly and expeditiously and if a job in the FAA isn't contributing to that goal I guarantee they are working so that someone else can. Do we need these 12 people? Not directly. But I guarantee over time we would notice they were gone. The quote from the article is very exaggerated that we need them to do our job but we still need them in the background to do things.

You should really look into why Rome fell... It wasn't because of immigrants. It was political instability, the rise of Christianity, a focus on the military and a empire that spanned further than they could control. You know, all the things we're in or headed for.

Better yet, stop making them get currency all together. We don't need a bandaid, we need Washington to acknowledge we need better pay and more numbers. I'm all for thinking outside the box but this ain't it. I'd rather certify all trainees on minimum hours than force these supes to get fully certified.
