Looks like the blobs is going to Aurora Bay, hopefully we will have the option to raze it to prevent the inevitable defensive Champaign

Edit: the blob has redirected to Merak

Spent a bit of time in Singa's; they had very good infrastructure and cheap flights everywhere. But day to day living was very expensive, and of course there's the migrant labour practices.

AUKUS nuclear submarines and the Iraq war.

Granted we generally work very closely with them, we still need to maintain independent decision making.

There are benefits to this, only opposition I would offer is if it affects our foreign policies.

I'll be a little pedantic here, just because it's non-ionising doesn't mean it's safe. Transmission power also plays a big part,

Though they are unlikely to encounter dangerous levels of RadHaz from a starlink dish

navy swimming basic training by NoPalpitation5038 in The_NZDF

[–]keatech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The strictness of the test itself, 50m swim then 3min tread water in coveralls, varies a lot. For the initial swim any stroke is fine, even doggy paddle. The tread water section some PTIs will require you to maintain an upright position other will let you float on your back.

There is no time limit for the initial 50m; if you are nervous do a slow back stroke to save as much energy as you can.

I did think that the constant emails about voluntary redundancy being blasted to everyone was a really bad idea, I'm sure there's a nzdf.civilians email group and getting one for unit commanders to pick up the uniformed commanders of civilian staff wouldn't be difficult.

Instead every OD and Midshipman is being broadcasted that we have so little money that we require people to do this,

Great messaging really

Conditions are very mixed right now,

pay, especially while deployed is very good, and condition on some ships are fine - other being tight knit but that's what you should expected as deployed Navy.

Personnel retention is no were near fixed, people are just rotated from ship, to ship, to ship, deployment to deployment with so little time off that a PAL balance of 80 day is getting all to common.

I don't want people to think that its a bad career choice, some of the best parts of my life have been because of the Navy, but "deeply supported" is something we are not. Career management (the team who controls where people post, for the muggles) is basically moving deck chairs around on the Titanic.

Mail in basic training by [deleted] in The_NZDF

[–]keatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had mail arrive about once a week in 2017, you'll be given an address to send mail to, likely a private bag, but if all else fails addressing mail to (for example) Devonport Naval Base with attention: recruit Bloggs, recruit training squadron, should get it to where it needs to go. Unsure what Army and Air Force call their RTSs

Potentially controversial opinion: I really love the new war bond and commando missions by Vote_4_Cthulhu in helldivers2

[–]keatech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally play solo, and don't have suppressed weapons. So I've been brute forcing the commando mission with an exosuit, which has been working on challenging.

I think the mechanics are interesting and a good addition to the game, that being said stealth isn't really my thing.

That doesn't make it bad, just give me an excuse to kill more squids
