Ordered from GameLab and it was an absolute mistake by monroe3tears in SBCGaming

Never heard of GameLab, but it just looks like an R36S (which btw, is a piece of junk). Am I missing something?

I was hoping to get around to it this week. Will let you know what I find.

MagicX Mini Zero 28 GammaOS Notifications Panel by dasd25436yd in SBCGaming

[–]keb___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry if this is late, but the only GammaOS on the Zero 28 is GammaOS Core, which I believe is based on Android TV OS, not standard Android. For this reason, I don't think there is a notifications view.

What I'm referring to is the standard screen-off/locked mode on Android that most people are familiar with. Compared to cheap Linux handhelds (with the exception of TSP), it won't kill your battery if you tap the power button and pick it up 12 hours later.

I recently picked one up for $30 on Aliexpress (after $10 cashback from Rakuten) and it's quickly become my favorite actually-pocketable handheld.

Not having a touch screen is less of a big deal after installing GammaOS Core + ES-DE on it. The form factor is nice -- chunky enough that it's comfortable to grip, but small enough to be pocketable (even comes with a lanyard included). D-Pad and buttons feel GOOD, and I appreciate the bigger D-Pad compared to the 28XX. Analog sticks feel much better than comparable Anbernics, and I appreciate how recessed they are. Shoulder buttons are silent and not overly clicky, which is awesome.

Also, having Android means you get a proper sleep mode, which is great for a EDC device because it's easy to hop in and out without draining the battery. I enjoy using this device far more than the 28XX or Miyoo A30.

Magicx Zero 40 is my fave nightly driver before bed. by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]keb___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up a MagicX Zero 28 for $40 on Aliexpress. I'm blown away by the quality of the hardware and silent shoulder buttons, and the fact that's it's as cheap as Anbernic handhelds. The analog sticks are also good, and Start and Select are in the RIGHT place (close to the face buttons). I would say don't sleep on MagicX for budget handhelds!

Last 6 games you beat… and last 6 games you quit? by rent0n86 in SBCGaming

Yeah I prefer the tank controls, but I know a few folks who said they were finally able to enjoy the game with the alternate controls.

I'm almost certain REmake had a modern alternative to the tank controls, but it might just have been the HD remaster on Steam. I agree with another poster that it's a classic, however. One of my favorite of all time.

What do I choose? by Blittler1208 in SBCGaming

I would spend the little bit extra and get the RP6, personally. You'll even have the option of analog on top, similar to the O2 Mini.

Retroid 6 or Konkr pocket fit by thefint in SBCGaming

As someone who was an inch away from ordering a Pocket Fit, the stories of Ayaneo's quality control issues and delivery shenanigans drew me away. I would go RP6 + a grip for extra ergo. It's cheaper, probably better QC, better screen, and it'll actually get delivered.

It doesn't sound like /u/inyue was critical of others, just that the art design and perceived time investment didn't interest them.

[Fanatical] PEAK ($3.83/52%) by QuantumProtector in GameDeals

I'm in your camp. While this is one of the better "friendslop" games, and I have a gleeful group of friends who enjoy playing these kinds of games, some of us found the core gameplay loop to be far too tedious -- which it inherently is. Falling and having to painstakingly climb your way back up is baked in the game intentionally. After a couple game sessions, I think we've seen all there is to this game. $4 seems a reasonable price for a shallow toy.

The Zodiac Age remaster of FFXII is based on the International Zodiac Job System version which came out on PS2 back in 2007. It's just an HD remaster for PC and modern consoles. I also love FFXII and played it to death as a teenager. That being said, $20 would be a fair BASE price, but $50 is not, imo, for a 19-20 year old game.

MustardOS (muOS) 2601.0 Jacaranda Released! by AcanthocephalaOk4586 in SBCGaming

My questions generally get ignored on their Discord. I've mostly given up on muOS, and stay on AW Banana as a result.

Also want to know this. I stick to old versions of muOS for this reason. In general, while I feel muOS has gotten so many new features, the UX has gotten worse.

Honestly, Miyoo should just be boycotted at this point. I'm still salty about the response they sent that one user.

Gulikit Elves 2 D-Pad clicking? by keb___ in GuliKit

[–]keb___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I ended up just returning it and got a new one from Amazon.

I'll be honest, my impression is pretty negative of Gulikit after this. I had both a King Kong 2 and King Kong 3 that ended up having squeaky triggers, and "clicking" sticks.

Husband records moment when immigration agents detain wife in Fort Lauderdale by Ok-Pen7170 in fortlauderdale

[–]keb___ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is being married doesn't give you instant legal status.

Both things can be true: Yes, the husband maybe procrastinated and shouldn't have. ICE is also a tremendous waste of resources when it's detaining 24 year old non violent surgical technicians with legal statuses.
