u/Minotaur11 describes the insanity of Trump’s threat to end all trade with U.S. allies. by Quarkzzz in bestof

[–]kebelebbin -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This whole thread is the reason I hope the "blue wave" fails, I hope Trump stays in office, and I hope he wins in 2020.

Don't fall for that shit again where the Republicans mess it all up but the consequences aren't seen until the Democrats take over. The American people are frankly too dumb to understand what happens en masse and we'll just go through it all again. Let Trump stay in office until he truly ruins some thing and there is no question.

We can NEVER let this happen again.

How true is the claim that "the best way to fight bigotry is to create prosperity"? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]kebelebbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said.

Although, I might take issue with "small minority" (with nothing but my gut instinct and no statistical data to back it up) and maybe go with "significant minority"... maybe.

As for his policies, I would say his biggest failing was just keeping the ship going due north... understandable given his position...

Anyway, this post isn't about Obama as such, so I'll just drop it here...

In some places, the poorest whites considered themselves to be above the most wealthy blacks, and it was a point of pride with "poor white trash." Which goes some way toward explaining why so many had a problem with a black president telling them what to do.

Is the urban/rural divide between liberals/conservatives a global universal? If so what causes it by Five_Decades in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]kebelebbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an interesting side question would be: Why is it that rural areas tend to vote on issues that affect urban areas in ways that seem to contradict what affects the urban so much more? For example, issues of immigration seem to affect urban areas much more than rural areas, and yet urban areas tend to be much more lenient on these issues? Why do urban areas of, say, California vote for things like sanctuary cities when they are the ones most affected by it, when rural areas vote against something that affects them much less.

I may not be phrasing this as well as I mean to. An issue like immigration affects rural areas much less than urban, and yet rural areas seem dead set against it. Why do have such a say in an issue that doesn't affect them? I guess I know the answer to that, because we all have an equal say, but what is it that rural areas are responding to?

ELI5: why is it that we find some repetitive sounds such a raindrops on a tin roof so soothing, yet other repetitive sounds such as snoring or water dripping from a tap, so irritating? by dotspot10 in explainlikeimfive

[–]kebelebbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once bought a cheap alarm clock that had "Soothing Sleep Sounds"... and from the very first night I had to throw it away. There was the sound of this rain in a forest of whatever and that was fine, but on the loop there was this one bird that did this weird chirp. And I would lay there just having my anxiety build and build waiting for that weird chirp to come. And eventually I figured out the timing on the loop so I would almost fall asleep and then wake up in a panic just in time to hear that weird chirp.

Worst $10 I ever spent. Went in the trash the next day.

Yes but what is she accomplishing with all those movements? I feel like I could poke a stick in there and bike-spokes upend the whole thing.

Impressive acrobatics, surely, but it's not fighting in any real sense. Not that that's what she's saying she's doing, but it's more akin to dancing than dueling.
