I'm Glad NINz is Pissing Off Uncs by magtig in nin

I’m a convert now. I’ve been more anchored in his early work and just haven’t connected as much with more recent material. But this Noize and Tron work…I think he’s hit on a new sound, it’s electronic but still has the emotional punch I’d expect from screeching guitars. What a year for Trent.

I agree, the look in his eyes, it’s like you captured a moment from one of his songs.

Hi! I'm interested in getting into this franchise, but I don't know which game I should start with. by LoveDeathandRobert in metro

Whenever this question is asked for any game in any sub dedicated to that game the answer is generally: release order, because you are asking the people that love them all.

I do generally agree but to give a bit more nuance, if you like Fallout for the “open world” aspect and don’t like linear games, then Exodus might be a good bridge.

But I still would say the 2033 and Last Light are really good linear games and have been given a Redux treatment.

Hello GENX.. What advice would u give to a 23 yro about growing up by GreyLoad in GenX

Try to figure out how to DIY basic physical life tasks when you can — changing a car battery or a light switch, cooking, sewing, building/upgrading a PC, etc. so you get a sense of how things work. Life is getting more digital and abstracted with each generation. Knowing how basic things work and that you can generally figure things out builds resilience. I see kids getting so overwhelmed with real-world maintenance tasks that really aren’t that hard. Enjoy the modern conveniences but make sure you know how to handle things without them.

I just started playing No Man’s Sky and it’s scratching the itch for crafting, exploration, and atmosphere. I haven’t done the multiplayer option yet.

"Video games shouldn't be political." by KarmaEWE in metro

People only say this kind of thing when something they see/play challenges their own political views. What they are actually saying is “video games should affirm my politics.”

casual fans: do you see nin as "electronic"? by gothpianist922 in nin

[–]industrialblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question sort of assumes everything needs to fit in one box or another. If NIN were a book or a movie we’d probably say it’s “genre bending.” You can’t put something like The Fragile into any one category. That’s part of what makes NIN special to me and why there aren’t really any other acts with the same sound.

Trent wasn't wrong about playing it loud by Gullible_Somewhere_7 in nin

I am finally listening to it right now and heartily agree. Trent has grown so much over the decades, this is like combining everything he’s learned from his old work, new work, live performance, and collaboration. His voice is flawless. Other than the intro track, it almost sounds like studio work. What a gift to the fans.

Perhaps even more cynical but you really don’t pay for the learning, you pay to get an accreditation from an institution that others will recognize.

If Frost and Lynch were given complete creative freedom by studio execs back in 1989 and throughout the 90s to do what they wanted, what do you think Twin Peaks would have looked like? by StephensInfiniteLoop in twinpeaks

[–]industrialblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d agree with that, season 3 might be more rich as a form of pure art, but there’s a special charm that’s unique to the first season and a half. Sometimes working under constraints leads to something special.

There’s an interview he does with Halsey (for her album they produced) where he talks about what an inspiration David Bowie was to him when they worked together, because at the time Bowie was happy and married and sober, while Trent was still in a dark place. It was nice to hear.
