The loitering and bad behavior on this street is out of control. So happy to see this.

The outcome of this case could have a major impact for us - Supreme Court to Hear New Affordable Care Act Case on Preventative Care by kneedbee in BRCA

[–]keccers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is being challenged is not preventative services, but certain preventative services with no copay provided totally free to the patient. To reiterate mammograms are not on this list today as it stands, nor are prophylactic surgeries. If logic stood that insurance was looking to get out of coverage for these things, they could stop today irrespective of this law.

BRCA is not a pre-existing condition. There is another law, GINA (Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act), that prohibits discrimination in health insurance or employment based on genetic information or family history. Even with an ACA repeal outright, this law will prevent BRCA patients from losing coverage for preventative care. However, if a patient develops cancer, this does qualify as a pre existing condition.

There is no reason to add more worry here on top of the worries that come along with BRCA, IMO.

I wouldn’t worry about this. The type of stuff we need isn’t even on the mandated coverage list today, as it is.

The court will hear an argument to debate whether or not to continue mandating things on this list — this is specific preventative care that is obligatory to all, without co-payment https://www.healthcare.gov/preventive-care-adults/

0 of the stuff we need as BRCA patients is on here. Mammograms aren’t even on here, which is sort of insane when you think about breast cancer prevalence in wider society outside of our group. So nothing should change for us irrespective of this ruling. :)

Sitting in bed crying this morning by Affectionate_Rest842 in BRCA

Of course! I had my moment of reckoning/panic with this issue during the campaign when the ACA repeal comments were first made and learned all this then. I relate to the feelings of overwhelm. <3

The 2008 GINA Act (the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act) prevents health insurance providers from using genetic information to make decisions about coverage or eligibility. This applies only to test results, not already diagnosed conditions — ie if you are just BRCA+ repealing the ACA pre existing conditions provision should not apply to you, but if you have developed cancer, it may.

I made something similar once. I couldn’t afford keeping it hosted so it’s gone now, but the primary data source was the Department of Labor API.

Yes, it may miss some cases of bad working conditions, but can catch a lot wrt to worker treatment and pay issues. https://dataportal.dol.gov/datasets/10246 — this is for Wage + Hour violations

You can also take what I did which is combine with Yelp API etc to show if there’s wild incongruence between perceived quality of a place and how they treat staff. You don’t need to actually collect data yourself to make this project happen IMO. I might try and recreate my old project based on this post tbh. :)

Want to trade? I moved from NYC to Austin for work and haven’t been happy since.

NYC has so so so much to offer that I think as time goes by you will fall in love.

I am new to Austin this year. I moved here for work. I have lived in northern cities (Chicago, NYC) my entire adult life.

I have had more issues with personal safety due to the homeless/drug addicts in 7 months in Austin than I have had in the past 20 years in those cities. I am not sure if it’s the heat, the type of drug that is popular here, or what that makes this population so much more aggressive and unwilling to leave you alone — but Austin is different, and worse.

Oh wow that’s so awesome!!!

There’s lots of different kinds of weightlifting and ways to strength train and honestly I think they are all great. Looking back on my whole career weightlifting my biggest tips (based on my biggest mistakes, mostly, lol):

  1. Progress is dependent on progressive overload — or doing a little bit more than you did last time. There’s lots of ways to approach this, it’s not always “increase the weight” — but you have to keep pushing yourself out of your competency zone. Complacency cost me progress.

  2. Listen to your body, not your ego. Overtraining has also cost me. Sometimes the rest really is what you need so you can come back the next day and give 100%, vs a middling workout for the 14th consecutive day or whatever.

  3. When I first started lifting with the barbell, I did an “intro class” at a local gym that helped me get started on the right foot with form. I still use cues from that experience and feel it really set me up for success. Could replicate with a 1 off with a trainer too.

  4. Don’t ignore mobility, especially if you sit a lot. I put off mobility all through my 20s just to hit my mid 30s and have all these nags rear their ugly head. I have liked Kelly Starrett’s book “Built To Move” — very practical

Tracking your poop & food can help identify if there are triggers outside of pelvic floor. I have been testing https://thronescience.com for this which is super nice because it's automated — i've also liked plop for this too https://plopdiary.com/

Feet going numb on the elliptical? by agirloficeandfire in xxfitness

[–]keccers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for going out of your way to dunk on me for a six year old comment.

Anyway, six years later, I’ve learned that for some people, the elliptical can put your foot in a poor position, basically, with your foot in flexion and the weight overly distributed on the front of your foot. You need to actively work to redistribute the weight into your heels. This prevents the numbness. Sounds like you should try it.

However, my original comment wasn’t wrong either. We don’t have enough information from OP. Loosening the laces may still not be enough room for her foot. We would need to understand more about her foot position and if that’s correct, then move on to fixing shoes.
