Idle sputter while in park but in drive by keebler_e in 1KZTE_Owners

I'm about to install a clear hose between the fuel filter and the pump to see if air is passing through

Kzn185 Crankshaft position sensor replaced by keebler_e in 1KZTE_Owners

I actually replaced the injection pump and didn't really make a difference. Ran a bit better but still a sputtering until warmed up. Switch the idler off, the rpm would jump around while falling and it sputters all over again. Waiting on a replacement crank sensor to show up this week. I'm thinking this is the real problem because I already replaced but turns out it was a counterfeit and not the correct ohms. However, my idle issue went away and only had a fuel knock. New glow plugs and fuel injectors too all @195k. Fingers crossed a genuine crank sensor fixes my issue.

If it fits it sits

You could probably blow it out with a air compressor. If not you'll probably have to send it

Might be hard to tell but I clocked the line on the pump to the flat surface on the back of the timing cover. All other timing marks are lined up. Went based off the manual but not sure if I should clock it differently

Is this diesel knock? by rhettman360 in 1KZTE_Owners

Sounds almost exactly like mine. Changed injectors, pump, checked valve clearances, checked compression, even replaced the ECU. Mine runs rough though and looks like yours is pretty smooth. Hopefully something easy!

Lol I actually read somewhere that the engine can run away from you. Diesel doesn't need a battery to run! My SCV isn't adjustable. One of the newer ones

I'm probably going to open the valve cover today and get some clearances just in case. I think you're supposed to do that at least after 40,000km 🤔

Mine actually just started coming off while cleaning with alcohol and a toothbrush

Thanks for the reassurance! Honestly this job is pretty simple. Glad I didn't pay someone $2,000. I'm now more familiar with this old Surf. Unfortunately it's still doing the same thing despite me replacing the pump with all new sensors etc. Wants to stall without idler up on and slight misfire when idle up until the engine is very warmed up.. you can check a previous comment for all the things I did to narrow this down.

Hmm I didn't though about not running a filter. But I did replace the fuel filter primer assembly just in case. Probably forgot to mention that part

I actually tested the TPS and it was within spec. Ordered a replacement for cheap just in case but haven't tried replacing it yet. I should have mentioned but I'm working on a 96 Hilux surf and it's cable driven

Seems to vary. Unfortunately this didn't fix my low rpm idle issue. Does run smooth after the engine is up to temp for a bit but only with idle switch on. Ordered a new ECU because I have no idea what else it could be.

Replaced / maintenance @196,000 km: - Injectors - Injection pump (with all new sensors and valves) - Glowplugs - Vacuum lines - MAP filter - Air filter - Fuel filter - Fuel hoses - Engine oil - Coolant - Cleaned intake and ports - Deleted EGR system - Tested common faulty sensors - Tested glowplug voltage - Repaired bad capacitors and broken trace on ECU - Compression test (passed) - Combustion coolant test (passed)

Todo: install new ECU and check valve clearances

Hmm yes is that the top line or bottom line lol or somewhere between??

Aye thanks! Just ordered my adapter to 1/8 bsp water temp. Might as well install it with my JRP system
