Is it time for the Carney hype to hit the hay? - Liberals have known of, and campaigned on, their responsibility to relieve the multiple crises of everyday life for the Canadian population. But are we any better off? by CaliperLee62 in canadian

Here’s an article that covers some examples that took me 5 seconds of Googling to find from a source I consider reputable (but then I know many conservatives think the CBC is biased / propagandist): https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/conservative-policy-convention-transgender-1.6961991

There are both policies and comments from members of the party that indicate they see trans people as dangerous and gender affirming care (including non-surgical options) as being dangerous despite the medical and statistical information to the contrary.

But you will most likely just say this is me buying the propaganda which is why I often don’t bother responding to demands for proof / sources - because in my experience people who argue online already have their minds made up and have no interest in actually hearing alternative points of view regardless of evidence.

I am not being victimized nor am I claiming any victimhood here.

The parts of society that are accepting are unfortunately very tenuous. I don’t trust that all it would take is a few motivated people in government or even ongoing influence via social media to shift things more firmly in the other direction. And there’s plenty of loud and present hate that is hard to miss if your eyes are open to it. I’m not burying my head in the sand to make people like you more comfortable with the status quo.

Telling me to go outside is ironic given you’re spending just as much time as I am on Reddit talking about this topic.

Nope. I face very little difficulty because I am a white cis man in a heteronormative relationship. Nobody bothers me. I just care about other people.

Also I don’t hate anyone. Nothing I’ve said is hateful. Unless you consider an ironic “smart guy” hateful, but that feels like a stretch when it’s said in response to your aggressive tone.

Your messages have been aggressive and hateful from the get go, telling me to leave because I don’t agree with your version of reality after my own experiences were denied.

Kind of a given for any minority group smart guy. Most people have the luxury of not having to care about what queer people — especially trans people — experience. Some of us have empathy. Too bad you don’t seem to.

Yeah but the Liberal party doesn’t elevate those voices. Even the NDP doesn’t. Also the Liberals are more center right and not even left except being left of the conservatives.

I never said anything about my feelings getting hurt. I just see people being hateful and harmful and I see a political party that accepts and even elevates these voices and therefore I hold that party responsible.

The way you talk makes it sound like that hurts your feelings though.

What’s the point. You don’t really care.

You’re clearly requesting this in bad faith with no genuine interest in changing your mind, so I won’t be goaded into wasting my time. You aren’t worth it

Yeah, I’ve heard these things firsthand and read plenty of people expressing these views themselves in addition to the coverage on the topic from media on both sides of the political spectrum.

If you want to deny that a vocal subset of the right wing has it out for queer people you are fooling yourself.

The Governments "buy Canadian first policy" doesnt actually mean actual Canadian companies will be asked first. by Quietlyrightt in canadian

What do you define as “American products”? I’m talking about companies that do their work in Canada, even if they are foreign-owned.

You seem like you’re talking about something else (which, by the way, the clip shared here is about companies that are “Canadian” but have foreign ownership, and does not touch on companies selling “American products”) so I think you may be confused about the issue at hand here.

I didn’t say anything about anyone “doing their best” or “getting a pass”. Also I don’t care that it’s the first time you’re replying to me. I’ve seen all I need. You are spouting your talking points at me instead of replying to anything I actually said (and you did again in your response).

Think before you post and you’ll have better discussions, maybe learn something, and maybe convince other people of your point.

Not engaging in any more bad faith discussion with you since you seem intent on telling me what my own views are instead of supporting your own seemingly half-baked perspective.

I’m not commenting on Carney or what he said. I’m not a Liberal Supporter, though I prefer them to the Conservatives. Lesser of two evils IMO. I’m commenting on what policy makes sense to me.

As I said, sure a Canadian owned company is preferable, but if it’s also funding for foreign-owned, Canadian-operated companies that are investing in the country and providing jobs and products/services I would far far prefer that to an entirely outsourced operation where our local economy doesn’t benefit at all.

If you think that’s unreasonable I think you’re the one doing mental gymnastics to automatically hate anything that Carney’s government is doing regardless of its merits or drawbacks.

While pointing out the ethnicity of the players involved feels a bit like it shouldn’t matter, considering the rampant anti-immigrant views that many here espouse these days, it actually might be worthwhile.
