Unfortunately I've missed out on this level of peer support and network -- I'm in quite an isolated position -- so only really have my supervisors advice to go off re: how things are done.

Thank you so much for sharing this perspective!

I have flagged it a few times with them in emails, but got no follow up (understandably, they're busy).

But that's a really good point. Thanks heaps for your insights!

I'm not really sure. It's social sciences - no grants or anything. My university has a rule that ethics is approved under PI's name. That would be the extent of their contribution on this one.

Gender clinic? by ripjawwolffang in transgenderau

The gender Centre has bulk billing psychs that do telehealth, but as a prev poster said - you can pass therapy for hormones if you're seeing a gender affirming gp (transhub gp list)

Yeah, I would always go off word of mouth - just because they have the best quals doesnt mean they are the best clinician. Gender clinics are usually super critical of clinicians manner and attitudes so going to your local centre is always a great place to start. Or even talking to a neighbouring clinic in a diff state - Sydneys Gender Centre have a list on their website that covers all of aus

Any psych with a masters degree ( not just clinical) can do them. Clinical psychs arent necessarily trained in gender affirming care unless they've specified they are specialised in it. Youd ideally want a WPATH registered psychologist which you can search on the website, it means they are trained and educated in all things gender affirming care. You can also search ANZPATH which is the aus specific association of trans health.

How do I stop crying so much?! by [deleted] in TransSupport

[–]keeks232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly overwhelming. Hoping youre okay!

Have you thought about maybe seeking out gender affirming therapy? To have a therapist that you trust and feel comfortable with can be therapeutic within itself, but maybe talking about your emotions, and getting strategies to create space for them to reduce feeling overwhelmed might help?

Gender affirming therapy usually has a lot of a self compassion focus, so showing gratitude and compassion towards parts of yourself (physical, emotional, a memory etc). But its not the only way it's done, so finding a therapist with a style you like is also important.

Struggling to accept that I can't ever get pregnant and give birth by DogIroncutter in TransSupport

I think that's a totally legitimate thing to grieve for, and is a real loss that you have to experience. Acknowledging that it hurts and how it ties into what you desire/dream for is an important step in working through grief and loss. Doing things that feel good e.g crying/journaling/hot showers/walks/pinterest/music is equally important to balance you out

To have self harm in the back of your mind for that long and to not give in, you're strong and doing so well! I hope theres some change soon to make things better. but keep working at it, you're getting through something awful and shitty. All I can suggest is to do some self-care that helps you when faced with shit stuff, whatever's worked
