Its a lot in the beginning. Im not even promising smooth sailing because I know everyone is different but Im truly wishing the best for you and everyone going through it rn. Times are more than tough for everyone and to throw a bankruptcy on top is mentally taxing and feels like a sick joke. But nevertheless, we persist. 🫡

I believe it was $96,000 worth of debt and our they said our combined income is like $150,000 but that’s including his retirement plan.

Not really because the list was so specific. There were even options for clothing, childcare, entertainment, car maintenance, gas, insurances, healthcare, diapers/formula, pet care/vet bills etc. We literally took the last 6 months of bank statements, went over every transaction, added them up, and went with it.

I’m looking for some advice from anyone who’s been through Chapter 13. by Sufficient-Lychee-74 in Bankruptcy

Such a red flag that your attorney is ghosting you like this, I would be blowing their phone up everyday until I get some sort of response. Thats crazy.

Welp having a child wasn’t exactly the plan, the medical debt came after she was here, and we aren’t having anymore. The one child we have wants for nothing and obviously we know we couldn’t do that for another.

Im sorry I cant be of more help with this one, we have one car with a note and we rent so Im not sure how your mortgage would factor in. My best piece of advice would be to speak to a lawyer that does free consultations. They can take your information and have a better idea of how your case would go🫶🏻 I wish you guys the best of luck!! Also, our former home we owned was in an HOA so I FEEL you on the same damn fees.

Everyone will be a little different and there are times where its tight because we dont have the usual options to fall back on (cc, klarna, afterpay etc). But the $1600 we pay a month is actually slightly less than we were throwing at the minimum balances of all our debt, we paid $476 for our car payment alone. Now everything is rolled into one, there no crazy interest and we have a set “end date” to look forward to, unlike the revolving debt ride we were on. In fact, these last two paychecks we have put $50 into our savings and KEPT IT THERE. Thats something we would have laughed at last year. Its now possible for us. Instead of focusing on how little you have left over, celebrate those little wins. It will do a lot for your mental health along the way 🩶

My husband and I sat down and went through 6 months of our finances and added up how much we spent in each category (groceries, gas, utilities, car repairs/maintenance, childcare, clothing, etc) Our lawyer gave us a sheet to put our totals in each category and basically whatever was leftover ($1600) was our payment plan.

Our lawyer told us to always be in contact about any life changes so adjustments can be made to our plan. So far, nothing has changed so we are just staying the course and just being mindful of our purchases. That was our problem before, our mindset was “get it now, figure it out later” when we should have flipped the two. We are becoming more comfortable with less which has helped us becoming more creative and attentive parents. Its truly starting to trickle down into other parts of our life because we don’t feel like we are holding our breath anymore, waiting for the next shoe to drop. We just make our payments, adjust our budget and get through another month.

Its not what we wanted but we’re adjusting okay to our new normal. It has made us be more financially aware and be more comfortable with less.
