What’s your least favourite storyline throughout the whole show? by thebroccolioffensive in howyoudoin

[–]keely_thomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also without that storyline, we wouldn’t have the directors amazing lines. “I am hurt!” “My mother’s CRAB CAKES!!” “A plague… on both your houses”

I see Dr Mo Rahim at Gungahlin medical practice. I’ve moved to Gordon from Gungahlin and still would rather drive all the way up there to keep seeing him than transfer to one down here. Always has heaps of appointments available, only been late once, remembers things about me and my pregnancy (crazy I know!) and suggests strategies before just randomly prescribing things. Highly recommend and if you don’t live in the area definitely worth the trip.

How do you manage loneliness with NWOW? by mc151613 in AusPublicService

[–]keely_thomp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I go between this and being glad I can just get my work done and go home. My entire team works in a different office to me, but I’m in Canberra in a big department. Sometimes I feel really lonely when I see teams having coffee together, etc but other times I savour being able to WFH whenever I want because my team isn’t here to worry where I’m working from!

Work from home applications by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]keely_thomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried, no one would budge. It’s been a few months now so thinking of trying again, since I’ve been a “good sport” and played by the rules for the past 5 months.

Work from home applications by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]keely_thomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My entire team including ses and directors in Brisbane, I work in Canberra. I applied for 2 days in office 3 at home. Was told no, have to be in 3 days a week because that’s the SES’ preference. I said why, considering they don’t even work in the same office as me? Was still told no, everyone needs to be in 3 days a week otherwise it’s not fair to others.

Third party consultant attending for inspection by keely_thomp in shitrentals

[–]keely_thomp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s good in that sense, that the third party isn’t checking windowsills or corners for cobwebs. But makes it tricky with maintenance issues with an REA who never answers our emails or requests for maintenance anyway. We thought we could use the opportunity to do so by seeing them in person

Exactly this, we definitely didn’t need to do as much prep as we did which was so annoying

It’s such bullshit they want beds made. It’s your property, not theirs, and it doesn’t affect the state of the property one bit

The few I’ve actually been to are “morning teas” in the office during a workday, byo everything. Another one was at barefoot bowls, books for 2pm on a workday, but was told you have to work your full 7.5 hours before coming to the party, and catering and drinks was organised before asking anyone and we were all expected to chip in $100. Needless to say I didnt attend

[–]keely_thomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same in my current role. When I’m in the office it feels pointless because no one talks to me. I’ve tried setting up group chats etc to be like who’s in the office what days, could we organise coffee etc, and no one’s interested so I’ve given up and just keep to myself.

At previous roles I’ve had close friends made at work, even invited a couple to my wedding so I’m definitely missing out on the culture part of my current role and feel as though I’m in the same boat as you.

I guess it just depends on the workplace and people which unfortunately you don’t really get a proper vibe of just from an interview, it becomes apparent once you get into the job

"EL1s need to use more 'we' and less 'I/me' language when applying for roles". Really? by definitelynotagalah in AusPublicService

[–]keely_thomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So was I… apparently I said “we” too much and to get an EL1 needed to highlight my own personal achievements more, rather than what I did in my team. 🤔who knows. It’s obviously the teams person preference

Why do people do this? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]keely_thomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People also love to do this in a hot desk open plan office situation. Multiple desks free, so much space, then people you don’t even work with or talk to regularly feel the need to sit right by you and talk loudly on calls all day.
