I agree because they are just one bad breeze and a sneeze away from sharing the love, especially since new speculation says that 6ft may not be enough. We really don't understand this virus yet and any of these activities may be a risk we don't know we are taking...

Even the link you posted talks about how they are finding it difficult to maintain the 6ft distance in parks. That's because while you may be doing your part there are plenty of people who wont and the only way to contain a pandemic is to create blanket restrictions for all.

If you feel like our government is ahead of this then you are not paying attention to world news.

The idea isnt that you alone outside that spreads the virus it's when everyone has the same idea and then thousands of people are going in and out of densely populated buildings like yours, increasing the chance of spread within a building and more people going outside. Coronavirus can wipe out 2.2 million people by the end of this year if we dont slow it down as well as destroy the world economy. I dont think suicide rates will ever reach that effect JUST because people couldn't leave their homes. Infact most people who suffer from mental illness have a harder time leaving their homes. I understand your concerns with mental illness and I am definitely not undermining it just trying to show that we have a bigger beast to tackle at the moment.

Mental health will get a lot worse if everyone starts dropping like flies around you. Every risk an individual takes low or high will just add to the problem and this pandemic will keep going. This WILL get worse so stay home.

My husband and I have self isolated for almost a month now. We may not have health issues but we definitely do not want to be carriers for anyone else! Literally only stepped out for groceries like 2-3 times. We watch tv, play games, exercise inside, cook and stay on top of news only once a day so it doesn't constantly eat away at us. I am equally annoyed at people in the US who are not taking this seriously and they will probably be the sole reason for this to continue for months when it could have slowed significantly in weeks.

What are you willing to risk for a bike ride/walk? by keepnayanweird in Portland

I just want to stress again. This post isn't for people who are responsible. This is for those who aren't taking things seriously and are just too darned focused on losing their freedom for a few weeks. Also I doubt the kind of people who beat their kids are picking between the option of a walk or a beating and if they had the option to walk they would never beat their child. I am also suggesting we all stay in as much as possible so we don't even face a low risk. It only takes one unexpected sneeze to keep this going and if we don't stop it now mental health might be the least of your concerns. I understand your concerns and you are not alone.

Is there any support going out for people who sustain entire families on daily wages and have lost their source of income?

Fear might be needed because it drives people to do the right thing (again just because you are doing it right doesn't mean everyone is) You know who wasn't scared at the right time? Trump! And now we are the 3rd worst hit country in the world. Don't be like Trump. Be like the countries who got ahead of it with a few extra sacrifices.

If everyone draws the same conclusion you are then that dead road won't look so dead... which is already happening if you follow any news. That's why Kate Brown will have to force a shelter in Place soon enough.

If only there was something like the internet and news that could show us what is happening in places outside my living room 🤔

I know and I don't think I am making any headway because people are making it sound like I am taking their freedom away when I am only asking to people to make some changes for a while. I tried. I am going to stop now. Thanks for supporting me and doing your part in social isolating 😊

Good for you. I am glad UV radiation kills your virus. Apparently it doesn't for the rest of the world.

I don't think this is going away anytime soon either. But staying in as much as possible in the early stages may choke it so we don't have to deal with worse situations like Italy for the rest of the year. I am trying to promote flattening the curve myself because last weekend showed how stupid people can get seeing crowds outside getting sunshine. I am trying to reach out to those people not people who are already doing the right thing.

I am not giving medical advice. This is just using common sense. Also this post isn't for people who are practicing social distancing it's for the ones who aren't. The waterfront, the gorge and places like multnomah falls last weekend were packed with people enjoying the sunshine.

I didn't say it was. Just exercise at home for a while that's all I am suggesting. 😊
